Statement of purpose (SOP) sample for Networking and Network Security

In the 21st generation, technology has become the most essential thing in human life. The innovation of new technological goods is improving the standard of quality of life. Nowadays, technology is very important to work in every sector of our lives, from entertainment and communication to education and health. People are enthusiastic about the use of new technological advances as the modernization of reliable and versatile hardware and software makes their job easy.

I have always dreamed of gaining excellent education to be successful in the technological field in countries abroad to get international openness and globally recognized certificates. Therefore, I applied for a Bachelor of Networking and Network Security commencing from [start date] respectively at [university name], which is a well-famed university of [city and country]. I firmly believe that the quality education that the college provides will make me capable of a successful career.

INTRODUCTION :

I am [your name], born on [date], passport no: *** bearer and permanent resident of [address]. I live in a nuclear family with ** members: my father, mother and me. My father's name is [name], and my mother’s is [name]. My father works in *, and My mother works ** in **. The financial situation of my family is healthy, and my parents are funding my higher studies. I assure you that my parents can afford my higher studies in a well-reputed and developed country like Australia. I am mentioning my personal and academic details, reasons for choosing my courses and Australia as my study destination in this SOP.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:

While talking about my education, I completed my grade 10 examination from [school] in [date] from [address] with a 3.42 GPA. After completing my 10 grade, I got admitted to a higher secondary school (grades 11 and 120 which is well renowned for its excellent result. I got enrolled at [college name] with a management stream. I completed my Intermediate Level 11 and 12 grade with an aggregate GPA of 3.92 in [year]. Later, to enhance my knowledge and study in a foreign country, I commenced preparing for the PTE examination and took an examination on [date]. I obtained an overall score of 84 with no band less than 79.

WHY NETWORKING & NETWORK SECURITY?

After studying my 11 and 12 grades in the management stream with computer science as a primary subject, I have a keen interest in continuing my further study in the same sector with the hope of be a successful person in Information Technology. It is also easy to understand networking because I am passionate about science and technology. In this generation, networking is essential to collect important data and information and access it with mobility.  Likewise, networking technology has become an integral part of business activities too. Most importantly, my homeland is a developing country, and the advancement of modern technologies can be seen in fewer numbers due to the lack of professionals. So, employment in various sectors such as online banking, business, telemedicine, education and so on is vacant. The purpose of obtaining this degree is to gain theoretical and practical knowledge in this field and to prepare me for a wide range of employment as well as to share my knowledge with the upcoming generation. Thus, to thwart the negative impacts that are caused by advanced technology and for the sake of controlling cyber-crimes such as hacking, misuse of personal contents, computer viruses and transfer of viruses through networking, I have decided to study IT networking and network security.

REASON FOR NOT CHOOSING [home country] FOR HIGHER EDUCATION :

As my country is still in the developing stage, infrastructures relating to science and technology are available in lower amounts. Having qualified instructors and professors, universities and colleges in [home country name] lack advanced technological equipment. Ever since I got the sense in my mind, I have had a keen interest in computer networking and cyber security because networking is a salient requirement in today’s context and learning about network security provides relief to the obstacles which are triggered by the advancement of technology. Still, this course is hardly available in my country, with a limited number of seats for students and only a limited number of colleges and universities providing this course. On top of that, only one intake is available in the educational institutions in [country] and for the sake of getting a seat in the universities and colleges, students need to attend various entrance examinations, which are the derivatives of SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT. [country]’s education system is still in a traditional approach, and theoretical knowledge is prioritized rather than practical due to which students may get good scores but remain unskilled. Besides, there is no proper timing for examination and result publication due to which students are boredom because they need to wait for months for getting their results and being enrolled for higher study as inefficiency and mismanagement are characteristics of all developing countries. Owing to the fact that most of the IT companies in [country] are in search of internationally qualified candidates as their employees but the education provided in [country] lagged far behind in offering international recognition. After taking every mentioned reason into consideration, I am obliged to continue my further study abroad.

REASON FOR CHOOSING AUSTRALIA RATHER THAN OTHER COUNTRIES:

Primarily, Australia is the third most popular destination for international students after the United States of America and the United Kingdom, as it consists of seven of the top 100 universities in the world. It is a well-developed country that has progressed in every sector, including education, science, technology, health, transportation and other infrastructures of development. Australia also has five of the 30 best cities in the world for students, characterized by affordability, quality of life and education, employment activity, etc. Australian institutions offer a comprehensive variety of courses and degrees, and students must choose between universities, vocational education and English language training according to their interests. On top of that, one of the delightful aspects of the country is supposed to be the science and standard of scientific research, and Australia is at the leading position in the innovation of new technological equipment. Many international students choose to study in Australia because it is a place where people from all over the world come to learn and share ideas and knowledge due to which Australia is acclaimed for friendly natives, cultural diversity and excellence in quality of education.

Along with this, the presence of ESOS (Education Services for Overseas Students) act 2000, which protects the rights of international students and TPS (Tuition Protection Scheme), which is an enterprise of the Australian government to aid international students, ensures that either international students can culminate their studies in another course or with another education provider or receive a refund of their unspent tuition fees. Similarly, they also have unique health insurance coverage for international students called OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover). Besides, the degrees granted by Australian institutions are globally recognized, and it will ease the students to enrol in any other college or university when they migrate to another nation. Students can work 40 hours per fortnight or 20 hours a week, thanks to which students can learn essential works from curriculum activities. Furthermore, after getting the degree from Australia, students will be benefited from employment opportunities as they can have post-study work (PSW) visa, which will enhance their capacity of learning because of the internship. I have also come to know that the crime rate in Australia is meagre in comparison to other countries like the USA and the UK, thanks to which we can say that Australia is a peaceful country having well-maintained law and order. As Australia is the safest place, having very low crime rates, it has a welcoming feel to it.

In my research, I looked into different countries like the USA, UK and other European Countries like Germany, France, Italy, etc., as possible destinations for study. But I realized that the USA has complex provisions to enrol international students as students need to sit for a competitive exam like SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) or ACT (American College Testing), which is highly time-consuming, and the UK didn’t seem appreciative to me because of expensive fee structure and expenses participating whereas in European Countries the most common language to communicate, i.e., English is barely spoken, and this will make massive obstacle of miscommunication.

While comparing, Australia seemed like a flexible and reliable country because of its quality with affordable tuition fees. Honestly, this nation stands out as a safe, multicultural and friendly nation that will not only abolish the obstacles like homesickness but also provides new opportunities to gather with brilliant minds around the globe and probabilities to build something new or to create opportunities to learn about different cultures and social values of different countries. Thus, I think choosing Australia over other countries will be the best decision because of all the mentioned reasons.

WHY SYDNEY?

There are numerous reasons for me to choose Sydney over other cities in Australia, but the most apparent reason is the climate. The climatic condition in Sydney is especially favourable for *** students because of the hot summer and mildly cold winter. As I prefer the outdoors during holidays, this environment is very advantageous to me. Sydney is fond of world-class educational institutions. It is home to many educational institutions and even the best place for international education for courses like IT, Nursing, etc., with top-ranked colleges and universities. Sydney is one of the world’s most multicultural cities where we can experience and cope with people from different ethnic groups, which will help me get involved in foreign cultures and traditions.

Along with this, there is the presence of mesmerizing landscapes in Sydney that can be explored and enjoyed, including Sydney Harbour, Opera House, Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbour, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Tower, Queen Victoria Building, Luna Park Sydney, Bondi Beach and much more. There is a well-organized public transportation system in Sydney, and plenty of options are available to travel, such as trains, buses, taxis, ferries, etc. Therefore, I am choosing to study in Sydney.

WHY [** university]?

After deciding my course and study destination, I had a lot of colleges and universities to choose from, like ***, ***, *** , etc. I went through the websites of those education providers but universities were comparatively expensive, so I enrolled in an affordable [ uni name]. I have visited many education websites like www.studyinfocentre.com, www.studyaustralia.gov.au; also, I attended many education fairs and seminars. Due to this, I was able to gather truthful information about college, courses and fee structure. By doing online research, I vividly understood that graduates achieve higher employment because of the educational training they offer. Later, I decided to choose [university] as the destination of study thanks to the quality education and affordable fee structure it provides and also because it is located in the heart of Sydney, Australia’s biggest city. Its location, in itself, is one of the beneficial factors. Located in the Central Business District (CBD) with a train station within 2 minute walk provides a more convenient transportation facility. Moreover, [university] provides flexible study hours, where students can choose morning, day and night classes.

On the other hand, tuition fees are affordable as it is annually ** AUD depending upon the course we choose. The course duration is 3 years.  Additionally, classrooms provided in [university] are smaller than the other universities, which promotes face-to-face interaction between mentor and mentee. Trainers apply numerous strategies to enhance students' knowledge in [university]. They encourage their students to be independent and ensure individual support between friends. Their teaching methods are mainly focused on a practical basis. Thus, students can follow demonstrating procedures based on the student's course. As well as, after getting in touch with some *** students studying in [university], I heard that mentors are friendly and cooperative with their students, which ultimately develop students’ skill of communicating with new peoples and they also provide guidelines for overseas students to cope up with new surroundings. So, I believe that this college is well-known for its courses and for spreading social knowledge and values. [your applied university] has an affordable fee compared to *** university, which is ** AUD, *** university which is ***, *** university which is ***. [course], “Where seekers become achievers” vividly means transforming a normal personality into one of a dazzling face. Some of the supports like Job Observation, Guest Speakers, cooperative nature of mentors and so on are the apparent reasons why I have chosen [university] over other education providers.

CAREER PLAN AFTER COMPLETION OF COURSE:

After completing my education in Australia, I shall return to my homeland with broad knowledge and international qualification. I will be following my aim to utilize the experience and talent gained from overseas to contribute to the betterment of the infrastructure of my own country. Having an international qualification will surely increase my chances to get a job in well-known national and multinational companies in my motherland like [ company names ] etc. to perform my task as a Network Manager, which will be very beneficial to me as it will help me to secure my career and have bright future and I also hope to contribute for the growth and development of technology in my nation as well. Employees who are experienced and well qualified to perform this task will be paid a handsome salary i.e., about *** per month. With this earning, I will be satisfied because after working in the IT Networking field will make me much more experienced and after years of experience and with lots of hard work, my earnings will be increased. After the completion of my study in Australia, it is my duty and responsibility to return to my country ***. Being a citizen of ***, I must contribute to the betterment of my nation and as I am the only son of my parents, I need to be with them in their old age. The advancement will comfort me in Australia but it means nothing compared to the love which is offered by my parents, relatives and friends in **.

REASON TO RETURN [home country]:

Being a son of an educated ** family, I’m loved and adored by all my family members. My parents are like my right hand, they have uncountable support for me in every aspect of my life in order to fulfil my dream. We have iconic family culture, intimacy, respect and strong bonding between senior and junior members. I have to accept the fact that I am here in this position because of their care and warmth. My sole responsibility is to look after them in their old age and the properties carry here in ***. My parents have more than *** millions of assets (both land and building) here in *** which is sufficient for fulfilling my necessity. In our country parents and their children do not stay separately. I believe, internal satisfaction is the greatest achievement for any individual rather than physical contemporary gratification. I don’t think I would be happy in my entire life without my relatives and birthplace. I can’t imagine living alone, ditching my country and the people around me. So, I will definitely return back to my country to share my dreams with my family, friend and society as a whole. Deceiving my motherland is against my morality.  I have a huge responsibility to preserve our existing friendly culture and divine morals. Apart from that, utilization of foreign skills, knowledge and expertise is the prime reason for developing an underdeveloped country rapidly. *** needs youngsters like me to achieve the milestone of sustainable development in the technology sector. So, I have a strong realization about my existence and role. As an IT specialist, I won’t have to worry about finding employment opportunities after completing my education in the same field. I will have numerous areas of employment chances with good salaries here in ****. Therefore, I have a lot of strong reasons & inspiration to return to my home country.

STUDENT VISA CONDITION (SUBCLASS 500) :

I like to state that I am fully aware of my visa conditions which fall under Student Visa Subclass 500. I have understood the terms and conditions of this category, which has been introduced and implemented under the Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) for all international students who wish to study in Australia at a registered education institution. There are certain student visa conditions that international students need to follow, which are mentioned below:

  • I need to maintain a minimum of 80% attendance throughout my course.
  • I need OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) for my stay in Australia.
  • I need to update my university / DIBP within 7 days of a change in contact details or accommodation.
  • I cannot work more than 40 hours per fortnight part-time.

Lastly, I want to assure you that the sole reason for me to go to Australia is to acquire international quality education in my intended course of study. After studying, I wish to stay with my parents in our nation. Being a hardworking and committed student, I am sure I can easily cope with the rigours of all international curricula.

Yours’ sincerely
