After my 4th semester in the BBA program, I realized I should have management-related work experience. Also, BBA is a theoretical course, so I decided to have practical knowledge. [University name] (university website)

[University name] (university website)

[University name] (university website)

Unfortunately, I found out that the postgraduate course for professional accounting, which is generally known as Master of Professional Accounting (MPA), is not offered by many universities and colleges in [country], and most of the colleges had Masters in Business Administration (MBA) courses only. On the other hand, the courses available in [country] focus more on theoretical aspects that lack practical and in-hand opportunities. Hence, I decided to pursue my further education abroad and in search, I found Australia suitable as per my requirements.

Why Australia?

Australia is also one of the research-intensive countries with universities offering research and development programs in science, mathematics, business, health, technology and engineering. These courses are designed to help international students get settled and make the most of their international experience. The Australian Government takes a keen interest in the nation's education system and strives hard to maintain educational standards. The Australian education system has an impressive international reputation with global recognition. It has excellent support facilities for international students like me with real-world skills that will be valuable after post-graduation. Many reputable colleges and universities in Australia provide over 22,000 high-quality courses and programs to international students. This means that I can not only take courses related to their primary subject but also enhance my academic qualifications by taking extra courses that may not be available at my home university. The Australian education system has gained an international reputation for providing quality education to local and international students in a safe and friendly environment. It has an internationally recognized degree. Australia also offers diverse study options for international students, with more than 1100 institutions and 43 universities. In addition, the climate of Australia is similar to Nepal's and its breathtaking landscapes with cultural diversity will make me less homesick and add to my intercultural experience. Likewise, the universities in Australia are relatively affordable and are known for their value-for-money service. Every year, the Australian Government sets aside over $200 million for students coming to Australia. These funds are used to offer various scholarship programs to international students. Many public and private universities offer many scholarship programs in almost every field.

The Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Legislative Framework of Australia is among the best acts for international students. It ensures the quality and standard of education providers in Australia providing education to international students. In addition, the right to receive information about the institution and the provision to sign a written agreement with the institution are some of the core features of the ESOS Act, which protects the rights of international students studying in Australia. Likewise, Tuition Protection Service (TPS) refunds students if the educational institution cannot teach the course. According to TPS, the institution has to either send the students to another institution to complete the course or refund the remaining portion. Such features of the Australian education system attracted me to pursue my study abroad in Australia.

Why not other Countries?

Although there are many destinations to choose from when deciding where to study abroad, I find Australia superior to other countries in the following aspects:

Reasons for choosing Australia over the United States of America (USA):

  •       Crime rates in the USA are comparatively more significant than in Australia.
  •       Recent issues with Iran and other countries make it less secure.
  •       Complex and time-consuming tests like GMAT, GRE, SAT etc., to enter American universities and colleges.
  •       Provision of scholarships without SAT, GMAT and other tests.

Reasons for choosing Australia over the United Kingdom (UK):

  •       Expensive fees structure in comparison to Australia
  •       Inconsistency in immigration law of the UK
  •       Inappropriate weather conditions
  •       Higher cost of living than Australia
  •       Longer course duration

Reasons for choosing Australia over other countries:

  •        The vast difference in the climate of countries such as Canada and New Zealand compared to Nepal. Meanwhile, Australia’s climate is pretty similar to Nepal's.
  •       There are language restrictions in most of European countries, which makes it difficult for international students like me.
  •       Studying in Japan is difficult because of its unpredictable climate and frequent natural calamities.

Therefore, I chose a business-focused institution such as [university]. Also, the fee structure is very reasonable, and this institution focuses on quality education rather than the quantity of students.

Why MPA?

The MPA course is designed to provide students with the skills and understanding required as accounting professionals. It is designed primarily as a conversion course giving students from a non-accounting background the opportunity to develop accounting skills and knowledge in the backdrop of today's increasingly complex and fast-growing discipline of accounting and finance. It offers me the opportunity to develop the knowledge and expertise needed for a rewarding career in accounting, starting with associate membership of professional accountancy bodies. There is advanced learning in both theory and professional practice, and it consists of innovative ways to solve accounting and business problems. This course will help me obtain specialized knowledge and research skills in accounting and related business areas. This course allows me to apply advanced concepts and solves much practical accounting knowledge to undertake rewarding careers in accounting and related business areas.

Even though I could choose a Master in Business Administration (MBA), I decided to study MPA because I wanted to specialize in one particular field, i.e. accounting. Also, many international students studying accounting degrees in Australia wish to enhance their academic qualifications by joining Australian accounting professional bodies. Upon completing an accredited university degree in accounting, I can pursue further professional studies to become a qualified professional accountant. During my internship and involvement in my family business, I realized the importance of accounting in business. It plays a crucial role in better decision-making, planning, survival and growth of any business firm. As a Master in Professional Accounting (MPA) makes me more familiar and competent with accounting principles, I chose MPA as my higher study course.

Future Plan and Career

After completion of my post-graduate course, I shall come back to [home country] to build my independent professional career. With an international degree and global exposure, I will have broad career options such as Public Accounting, Auditing (Internal & External), Management Consulting, Taxation, Teaching, Business Administration, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Banking, Strategic management and many more.
