Master of Engineering in Nepal is a two years/4semesters long graduate course offered by four different universities — Tribhuvan University (TU), Kathmandu University (KU), Pokhara University (PoU) and Purbanchal University (PU) in Nepal.

Master of Engineering Admission Process on TU

TU, Department of Engineering/ Institute of Engineering, conducts the annual IOE Entrance examination. After passing this entrance examination, students are eligible for admission to the postgraduate engineering programs at TU Colleges.

Application Process For IOE Entrance Examination

The application process for the IOE Entrance examination are: 

  1. The candidate should deposit an amount of Rs 2,000 as an application fee for the entrance examination in Account No. 00915056064 of the Siddhartha Bank Limited by submitting a specially prepared voucher, often by filling in the applicant's name and date of birth. Voucher No. Indicated in the voucher needs to ME specified in the online application form.
  2. The candidate must select the appropriate entrance stream.
  3. The candidate should fill in the other required fields in the form without skipping any steps.
  4. The candidate must also upload his/her colour photograph of the prescribed specification and one of the following identification documents.
  5. Citizenship certificate or Passport or Last Academic Exam Admit Card 

Students are advised to fill out the form carefully so that no errors are present during submission. In case of any mistakes, applicants must pay an additional charge to change the submitted information. 

After completing and submitting the application form, applicants must download and print the coloured admit card. Entrance examinees must present the printed admit card as an identification document for the entrance examination.  

(Note: Applicants will not be eligible to appear IOE Entrance examination if they don’t present the printed admit card and original ID at the examination centre.)

Selection Process

IOE Entrance examination board publishes the list of students securing at least 40% in the entrance examination. Depending upon this list, students are selected for the respective master’s degree program in engineering. 

The admission process to TU Colleges

  • The successful candidate should pay the required fee and complete the procedures within the time prescribed by the Admission Committee of the Campuses.
  • Candidates failing to do so will lose the opportunity to get admission. The following documents should be presented at the time of admission:
    •  Original and attested copies of transcripts of all academic records from SLC onwards to the latest approved degree.
    • Original copies of migration and provisional certificates, if applicable.
    • Original copy of Nepali citizenship certificate or passport for foreign students
    • Copy of Score Card of entrance examination. 
  •  In case of discrepancy in the verification of the original certificates or case of inclusion of the candidate's name in the admission list by mistake of any kind, admission of such a candidate will be cancelled even after their formal admission.

  • Rock and Tunnel Engineering students must pay an additional 14,800 per semester for Lab Expenses and Rs. 20,650 for Field Expenses.
  • Students from Geospatial Engineering must pay an additional 14,800 per semester for Lab Expenses.
  • Additional Fees include a TU registration fee of Rs.500 (1,000 for students of B.E/ B.Arch. or equivalent from abroad) and a Graduate Conference fee of Rs. 5000.
  • Sponsored students must make a cheque payment for the entire course duration (2 years) at the time of admission. The University disapproves other mediums of transactions. 
  • Students from Hydropower engineering and land and water Engineering must pay additional Rs. 50,000 for field visits and practicals.
  • Students are also subject to additional charges for Internet access and extra credit courses. 

Scholarships offered by TU

TU offers generous scholarships to deserving students based on the IOE Entrance examination result.

  1. Pulchowk Campus offers scholarships to 50% of the students for each Master of engineering program.
  2. For other constituent campuses of TU- ERC, WRC etc.- 25% of students from each engineering program at the Masters's level get a tuition fee waiver. These students who get scholarships are called regular students.
