University of New Haven

The University of New Haven is a private, nonsectarian, coeducational university located in West Haven, Connecticut. It was founded in 1920 AD as the New Haven YMCA Junior College and became the University of New Haven in 1969. The New England Commission of Higher Education accredits the University of New Haven.

The university has a diverse student body of approximately 6,500 undergraduate and graduate students. It offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs in business, engineering, the sciences, the liberal arts, and the humanities. The University of New Haven is known for its strong emphasis on experiential learning. It offers a variety of internships, co-ops, and study abroad programs to give students real-world experience in their fields of study. The university has many notable academic colleges and programs, including the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, the Tagliatela College of Engineering, and the College of Business. Main Intakes

The University of New Haven accepts students on three intakes a year. Fall intake in July, winter intake in November and summer intake in April.

Scholarships

The University of New Haven reserves the right to award the following: barring unusual circumstances, no application is necessary. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will inform students eligible for these scholarships at the time of their acceptance to the university.

Presidential Scholarship

For this grant, applicants must have excelled academically in high school. Depending on the student's high school performance, the Presidential Scholarship varies. Each academic year, awards range from $21,000 to $26,000.

Distinguished Scholar Awards 

This scholarship is given to students who have excelled academically in high school but might not fulfil the criteria for the First-Year Presidential Scholarship. The prize is between $15,000 and $20,000.

Charger Award

Students who demonstrate outstanding and consistent academic achievement but may not be eligible for one of the other literary prizes (Presidential and Distinguished Scholarships) are given this award.

Transfer Scholar Award

Full-time students transferring from another college or university who have finished 12 credits there and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 are eligible for the Transfer Scholar Award. The scholarship payouts range from $12,000 to $24,000 based on the student's GPA.

Application Process

Bachelor-level Admissions Requirements

• Evidence of high school graduation that demonstrates or verifies the graduation date, such as a transcript or diploma.
• A diploma from a foreign institution is equivalent to a high school in the United States. Transcripts and translated copies of the applicant's high school diploma from abroad must be submitted.
• Certificates of graduation or a copy of a valid driver's license, state-issued identity card, US military ID, valid US passport, or a valid passport from a foreign nation are acceptable forms of identification.
• If English is not the applicant's first language, they must provide one of the following documents as confirmation that they have the necessary English language proficiency:
• 60 or more on the TOEFL IBT.
• IELTS score of at least 6.0.
• Level 6 or above on the SELT.
• Proof that an ESL program has been completed.

Masters level Admissions Requirements

• Bachelor's degree earned with a minimum GPA of 2.5. A copy of the applicant's diploma and any relevant transcripts are required (If the transcript is not in English, its translation is needed).
• Each student must provide a personal statement (500–750 words).
• Proof of identity (copy of a current driver's license, state-issued ID card, US military ID, passport from the United States, passport from a foreign nation).
• Resume, Letters of recommendation and proof of two years of professional work experience.
• If English is not the applicant's first language, they must provide one of the following documents as confirmation that they have the necessary English language proficiency:
• A paper-based TOEFL score of 530 or higher or an online TOEFL score of 71 or higher (iBT).
• The International English Language Test (IELTS) score of 6.5 or above
• Score on the Standardized English Language Test  (SELT) of Level 6 or above.
• Evidence that the student completed at least 30 hours of Bachelor's-level coursework in English at a recognized higher education institution.
