Kathmandu University started offering a Bachelor of chemical engineering in September 2015. BE in Chemical Engineering aims to produce graduates with solid foundations in chemical processing and technologies.
Only Kathmandu University is offering a Bachelor of chemical engineering in Nepal. However, Tribhuvan University is also in talks to launch this program in its constituent, Pulchowk Campus, very soon.
The fee for a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering in Nepal is NPR 8 lakhs for 4 years. This course has 30 seats each year at the KU School of Engineering.
The internship is an integral part of the chemical engineering curriculum at KU. Students can intern at Udayapur Cement Industries Limited. KU has done MOU with this cement industry to provide its students with real-world chemical engineering experience and exposure.
Who can study Bachelor of Chemical Engineering in Nepal?
Applicants must first meet the following eligibility criteria to study Bachelor of Chemical Engineering in Nepal.
- Applicants must be from sciences streams and pass an intermediate level or class 12 with a minimum of 50% on average.
- Or, applicants must take physics, chemistry and maths and bring a minimum grade of C in each course.
- Students need to prove their physics, chemistry and mathematics proficiency through computer-based tests (CBT)- KUCAT.
Students selected from the written test are called in for an interview for the aptitude test. Finally, a list of eligible applicants is published on the KU site. The students with their names on this list can study Bachelor of Chemical Engineering at KU.

The internal or in-semester evaluations are made through internal assessments, VIVA, assignments, presentations etc.
The end-semester examinations are the means for external evaluation. Students are graded from A to F based on their performance.
