Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) in Nepal is a four and half year undergraduate course that allows graduates to practice physiotherapy as qualified practitioners.

This course is offered by only two Universities in Nepal — Kathmandu University (KU) and Pokhara University (PoU). 

Students must appear and pass a standard medical entrance examination to be eligible to apply for a bachelor of Physiotherapy in Nepal.

Admission requirements for Bachelor of Physiotherapy in Nepal

Eligibility

  • Must have passed Intermediate in Science (ISc) or Higher Secondary Level (10+2 Science streams) in biology stream with minimum C+ grade in physics, biology and chemistry.
  • A level student must have studied physics, chemistry and biology with a minimum aggregate of 50% or 2.4 GPA.
  •  For PCL or diploma students (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy), they must have an equivalent Proficiency Certificate level of Physiotherapy (CPT) registered in NHPC as recognized by the concerned University with at least 50% marks or equivalent. 
  • Must appear and pass a standard medical entrance examination with at least 50% marks to be eligible for admission.

Students must appear and pass a standard medical entrance examination to be eligible to study Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) in Nepal. 

Candidates can apply to the BPT program by completing the entrance examination form onlineThe completed application forms, including the documents and credentials, must be submitted within the notified deadline.

Prerequisites to fill joint medical entrance examination online form:

  • Bank voucher receipt from the bank after depositing the required amount to appear for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT).

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy exam fee costs Rs. 4000 for domestic students and Rs 8000 for international students. 

  • You can choose from different online payment mediums such as Connect IPS, eSewa, Khalti, Moru, IME pay and more to pay the exam fee.

 Entrance examination evaluation metrics

The entrance examination has 200 full marks and does not include negative markings for the wrong answers. It tests applicants' knowledge of English, mathematics, forestry, and science (physics, chemistry, botany, and zoology). 

The questions in entrance examinations are multiple-choice objective questions, primarily based on +2 level Science and PCL level courses.

To pass the test, an applicant must secure a minimum of 50% marks. 

The result list is published in merit order with the names of the candidates and their eligibility for admission. The selected candidate must present a photocopy of the following documents at the time of admission:

  • Certificate of qualifications — Transcript and Character Certificate of 10+2 and SLC/SEE or Equivalent.
  • Certificate of Equivalence for Students from foreign institutions
  • Copy of citizenship or passport.
  • Admit card for the entrance examination.
  • Documents submitted for reservation.

Interested international students must fill out the online application form disclosing their choice of academic program and submit it within the deadline.

Evaluation and Examination System

A student’s academic performance in a course is evaluated in two phases — internally and externally.

Internally, the concerned faculty member evaluates the students through quizzes, tutorials, lab work, home assignments, class tests, class participation, term papers, internal exam, etc.

The Office of the Controller of Examinations of the concerned university evaluates the students externally through year/semester-end examinations. 

Other external evaluation mediums include laboratory work, project work, practicals and internships through practicals, demonstrations, presentations (oral and poster) and oral exams.

Attendance Requirements 

A BPT student must attend every lecture, tutorial, seminar, field visit, lab work and practical class. 

However, to accommodate for late registration, sickness and other contingencies, they must attend at least 80% of the theoretical and practical classes held to be eligible to appear for the final examination. 

Internship for BPT

To complete the graduation program of the BPT course, it is mandatory to undertake a six-month-long internship program in hospitals within the scope of physiotherapy practice.
