B.Sc. in Nutrition and Dietetics is a pioneering course in Nepal under food and technology education especially introduced to create skilled professionals to combat malnutrition in Nepal. 

The entire B.Sc.ND course is of eight semesters (four academic years) with a total of 127 credit hours. This course is only offered by Tribhuvan University (TU) via Central Campus of Technology, Dharan. 

In order to study bachelor of science in Nutrition and Dietetics, one must have passed +2 Science with at least grade ‘C’. The eligible student should also appear and pass the entrance examination conducted at Central Campus of Technology, Institute of Science and Technology (IOST), TU.

Upon graduation, students can find careers in different governmental and non-governmental organisations as Nutritionists, Nutritional Therapist, Food Technologist, Health Promotion Specialist, Research and Development Manager, and more.

Admission Requirements to study B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics in Nepal

Eligibility for admission

  • Student must have passed 10+2 in Science, I. Tech. in Food/Lab Technology, or equivalent securing at least second division or equivalent.
  • For students with 10+2 or equivalent from a foreign board, they must have studied science with major subjects English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry securing at least C grade.
  • For A level students, they must have passed securing at least a D grade in subjects Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Must have passed the entrance examination conducted by Central Campus of Technology, Institute of Science and Technology (IOST), TU.

The completed application forms, including the documents and credentials, must be submitted within the notified deadline.

Prerequisites to fill IOF B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics Online Form:

  • Bank voucher receipt from the bank after depositing the required amount to appear for IOF B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics Entrance Exam. 

Forestry Entrance Exam fee costs Rs. 2300/-(subject to change).

Entrance Examination

Eligible students appear in an entrance examination conducted by Central Campus of Technology, Institute of Science and Technology (IOST), TU.

The entrance examination is of 100 full marks. It tests applicants' knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math and statistics, Logical reasoning and English.

To pass the test, an applicant must secure a minimum of 50% marks. The result list is published in merit order with the names of the candidates and their eligibility for admission.

B.SC. Nutrition and Dietetics in Nepal Course Details

Hours of instruction

The entire B.Sc.ND course is of eight semesters (four academic years) with a total of 127 credit hours. Each semester consists of 16 to 18 credit hours (equivalent to 400 to 450 marks) except for semesters VII and VIII.

In the seventh semester, there are two compulsory internship courses, namely, 

(i) Community based posting (2 months) of 6 credit hour 

(ii) Hospital-based posting (3 months) of 8 credit hours.

In the eighth semester, students are required to carry out dissertation work of 12 credit hours as mentioned in the curriculum.

Evaluation System 

Students will be evaluated on the basis of theoretical and practical examinations. A student must obtain at least 35% and 40%  in theory and practical examination respectively to pass the examination. Dissertations as well Internships (Field-based posting) also have pass marks of 40%. 

Students for this course of study are graded as follows:  

Distinction- 75% and above 

1st division- 60% and above 

2nd division- 45% and above.

Attendance requirements

B.Sc.ND students must attend every lecture, tutorial, seminar, field visit, lab work and practical class. 

However, to accommodate for late registration, sickness and other contingencies, they must attend at least 70% of the theoretical and practical classes held to be eligible to appear for the final examination.
