Tribhuvan University is Nepal's oldest and largest university. The university bears the name of the late King Tribhuvan. Initially, all postgraduate classes were held at the Tripureshwor Campus. Tripureshwor also housed the administrative office. Only in 1967 was the university relocated to its current location in Kirtipur, covering a total area of 154.77 hectares. Tribhuvan University is a non-profit autonomous institution supported by the Nepalese government. On January 8, 2013, the Nepalese government agreed to designate Tribhuvan University as the Central University.
