Xavier School of Management - [XLRI], Jamshedpur
    Established on: 1949

Xavier School of Management - [XLRI], Jamshedpur, has created its unique personality throughout the years. The first management institute in India was founded in 1949 and is known as XLRI. The hallmark of this identity is to forge new paths rather than take the well-trodden ones; to set benchmarks rather than be benchmarked; to be first to respond to the needs of the people and the country rather than second best; to undertake tasks that are risky but necessary, those that no one has done before. This innovative and pioneering spirit has been present throughout XLRI's history.

XLRI has always maintained a worldwide perspective. We internationalized our academic programs first among Indian management institutions. The institute's Board of Governors, leaders and administrators, teachers and guides, distinguished personalities, industrialists, academicians, and stewards of the Jamshedpur Jesuit Society have all been a part of the organization. In keeping with its mission, XLRI works to provide an education that motivates future business leaders to address societal needs that go unmet rather than simply leading to a degree.

MAGIS distinguishes students at XLRI from those at other management schools, which stands for "a search for the best, never to settle down for mediocrity, and constantly aspire to exceed." They never stop looking for more, for better than the best. The MAGIS-driven person either makes the situation happen or makes the most of it; rather than waiting for golden opportunities, they turn everything they come into contact with into gold.

One of the premier management institutions in India, XLRI, launched several management-focused courses for labour unions when it first opened. A two-year daytime Industrial Relations and Welfare curriculum was established in 1953; it was eventually renamed Human Resource Management. Since then, XLRI has expanded its infrastructure and added several academic programs focused on management to its portfolio to fulfil the rising student demand and position itself as India's top business school. In 1965, a three-year evening program in business management was initiated, and in 1968, a two-year full-time program was introduced.

For working executives, XLRI has introduced several short-term and long-term programs to help them improve their management-centric knowledge and develop into more capable business leaders.
