University of Kansas

The University of Kansas is a public research university with its main campus located in Lawrence, Kansas. The university also operates satellite campuses, research and educational facilities, medical facilities, and classes around Kansas.

The medical school and hospital of the university are located in Kansas City, and the Edwards Campus in Overland Park is one of two branch campuses in the Kansas City metropolitan region. Also, Garden City, Hays, Leavenworth, Parsons, Topeka, a rural agricultural education centre in north Douglas County, and sections of the medical school in Salina and Wichita have instructional and research facilities. The institution falls under the Association of American Universities "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very High Research Activity" category. 

The university was founded in 1865 A.D. Doug Girod is the chancellor, and Barbara Bichelmeyer is the provost. They are associated with AAC&U, ACE, AAU, APLU, Educause and the Kansas Board of Regents. As of 2018, the university's endowment was 1.741 billion dollars. 

In the autumn of 2021, there were 23,958 students registered at the campuses in Lawrence and Edwards. An additional 3,727 students were enrolled at the KU Medical Center (KUMC), bringing the total number of students enrolled at the three sites to 27,685. In the autumn of 2021, the university (including KUMC) employed 4,776 faculty members, including librarians, administrators, and graduate student workers.

The University of Kansas is a large university sponsored by the state with five campuses. The university has a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, which includes the School of the Arts and the School of Public Affairs & Administration; schools for Architecture, Design & Planning, Business, Education, Engineering, Health Professions, Journalism & Mass Communications, Law, Medicine, Music, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Social Welfare. Over 345 degree programs are available via these schools of the university.

The University of Kansas computer department actively contributed to the creation of the internet and was involved in creating the original Lynx text-based web browsers. There are contemporary labs, computer and IT labs, libraries, seminar halls, and on-site classrooms. The university also strongly focuses on skill development in addition to theoretical approaches. Internship opportunities are provided to students, so they learn by doing. Sports and extracurricular activities are also centred at the university.

The Lawrence Campus's Kansas Union, Burge Union, and Edwards Campus's Jayhawk Central are the three locations of the University of Kansas' unions, which are still considered to be its "living rooms." The university bookstore is run by the KU Memorial Unions Corporation (with seven locations).

Additionally, part of the organisation is KU Dining Services, which operates more than 20 venues on campus, including The Market (located within the Kansas Union) and The Underground (located in Wescoe Hall). Profits from the KU Bookstore and KU Dining Services go toward funding student initiatives like Student Union Activities.
