    The University of East London (UEL) is a public university in the London Borough of Newham, England, with three campuses in Stratford and Docklands, following the September 2013 completion of University Square Stratford. The West Ham Technical Institute was the forerunner to the University of East London. It was formally inaugurated in October 1898, after the West Ham Technical Instruction Act Committee approved the site's development in 1892, after the Technical Instruction Act of 1889. In 1992, it was granted university status.

    It had almost 17,000 students from 135 countries in February 2019.
