Namuna Institute of Technology (NIT), likely Nepal's first professional training institution to offer career- and self-employment-oriented crash courses in various parts of fashion designing and apparel manufacture, opened its doors in 1997. The Namuna College of Fashion Technology (NCFT) was the country's first academic fashion institution and is well known for being Nepal's first fashion college. It is located in Bansbari, Kathmandu. With its 3-year (6 semesters) Bachelor of Fashion Design program offered in conjunction with Purbanchal University, NCFT debuted the nation's first-ever fashion bachelor's degree program in Nepal in 2002.
