    McMaster University
    Established on: 1887

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada's McMaster Institution (McMaster) is a public research university. On 300 acres of land, the main McMaster campus is situated next to the Royal Botanical Gardens and close to the residential areas of Ainslie Wood and Westdale.

The DeGroote School of Health Sciences, Humanities, Social Science, Business, Engineering, and Science is one of its six academic departments. It belongs to the U15, a collection of Canadian institutions focused on research.

William McMaster, a well-known Canadian senator and financier who left a CAD 900,000 donation to the university's creation, is the institution's name. It was established in 1887 by the merger of the Toronto Baptist College and Woodstock College per an act of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.

In 1890, Toronto saw its debut. It moved in 1930 because of inadequate facilities and a grant of land in Hamilton. Since then, it has been privately chartered, publicly supported, and non-denominational. Up until 1957, the university was under the administration of the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec.

McMaster University has a 129-year history of fueling curiosity, inquiry, and discovery, pushing the boundaries of knowledge daily through our ground-breaking approaches to teaching and learning and our world-class, interdisciplinary research.
