    The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (abbreviated LMU; German: Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) is a public research university in Munich, Germany.

    Ludwig Maximilian Institution was founded in 1472 AD and is Germany's sixth-oldest continuously operating university. Previously, the university was known as Ingolstadt University. It has affiliations with the LERU, Europaeum, and German Excellence Universities. According to the German Universities Excellence Initiative, the university is an 'Elite University in Germany.

    The Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich was founded with only four faculties: the Faculty of Jurisprudence, the Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Philosophy. Initially located in the Old Academy, the university was relocated to Ludwigstrabe in 1826. The university began accepting female students in 1903 and became a coeducational institution. During the nineteenth century, it became the premier institution for scientific research.

    The university now has 18 faculties that administer several departments and institutions. Law, Business Administration, Economics, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, History and the Arts; Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Study of Religion, Psychology and Educational Sciences; Study of Culture, Languages, and Literature; Social Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics, Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, Biology and Geosciences, and Environmental Sciences are all faculties.

    Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich's campus is home to several institutes and research facilities. Aside from the centers, the primary building on campus is Geschwister-Scholl-Platz.

    The Carson Centre for Environment and Society, Research for Integrative Protein Science, Parmenides Research Centre, Nanosystem Initiative Munich, and the Human Science Centre of Munich are outstanding research facilities in addition to the campus' eighteen colleges.

    International students and doctoral candidates at LMU with short-term and unforeseen financial needs can apply at the International Office for one-time financial support (650 euros) financed by the State of Bavaria.

    • LMU SIST Study Scholarship:

    The Study Scholarship, accessible through LMU's Foreign Office, is sponsored by the Federal State of Bavaria for international and doctoral students at LMU who are registered for regular full-time study programs at the time of application.

    • German Language Courses Grant:

    Students who have successfully finished a German Language Course and wish to feel more comfortable communicating in German but do not have the financial means can apply for financing of up to 150 Euros after successfully enrolling in the course.

    The University Women's Representative organizes financing and mentorship programs for female students, scholars, and parents.

    Application Process

    Qualification for University Admission (Generally, a university admission examination certificate, a certificate from a one-year higher education course, or a university diploma; when appropriate, an Abitur certificate or comparable school leaving certificate).

    Applicants must contact university administration to see whether their school leaving certificate (as an officially certified copy with a licensed formal translation) allows them to begin a degree program at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich.

    Applicants from the People's Republic of China, India, and Vietnam must present an authentic certificate from the Akademische Prüfstelle bei der Deutschen Botschaft.

    In other circumstances, the International Admissions office maintains the authority to request a recognition notification from ZASt.
