    Leeds Beckett University (LBU), initially Leeds Metropolitan University (LMU) and Leeds Polytechnic before that, is a public university in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It includes campuses in both the city center and the suburb of Headingley.

    The Leeds Mechanics Institute was founded in 1824, which is when the institution got its start. Leeds Polytechnic was founded in 1970 and was part of the Leeds Local Education Authority until 1 April 1989, when it became an independent Higher Education Corporation. The institution was granted university status in 1992. In September 2014, the present name was chosen.

    The institution's yearly income in 2016-17 was £221.4 million, with grants and contracts accounting for £3.4 million and expenditures totaling £217.1 million.
