    Birkbeck, University of London (formerly Birkbeck College, University of London) is a public research university in Bloomsbury, London, England, and a federal University of London member.

    Birkbeck, founded in 1823 as the London Mechanics' Institute by Sir George Birkbeck and supporters Jeremy Bentham, J. C. Hobhouse, and Henry Brougham, is one of the few institutions in the United Kingdom that specializes in evening higher education.

    Birkbeck's main campus is Central London, Bloomsbury, London, Borough of Camden. Birkbeck has approximately 200 undergraduate and postgraduate programs that may be studied part-time or full-time, with almost all lectures in the evening.

    Birkbeck's academic activities are organized into five core faculties, each of which has nineteen departments. Birkbeck, a constituent college of the University of London, adheres to the university's academic requirements and confers University of London degrees.
