Entry Requirements For Master of Commerce in the USA

University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

  • Transcript of the Undergraduate degree evaluated by the WES
  • GRE or GMAT score
  • TOEFL score of 100 or IELTS score of 7.0

University of Virginia

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, science, or liberal arts. One with an undergraduate major in business is not eligible for this course
  • SAT, MCAT, and ACT scores are accepted but not mandatory for 2022-2023
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 100 or an IELTS score of 7.5 is required.

Claremont Graduate University

  • A bachelor's degree from a recognized institution
  • GRE is not required but can submit if the applicant has taken the test
  • For international students from a non-English speaking country, a TOEFL score of a minimum of 100, an IELTS score of 7.0, or a PTE score of 66 is required.

Michigan State University

  • An undergraduate degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from a nationally recognized university
  • At least two years of work experience in supply chain management
  • IELTS score of 6.5 overall, TOEFL score of 88, or PTE score of 59 overall for proof of English language

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

  • Must hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • TOEFL score of 88 or higher, IELTS score of at least 6.5, or PTE score of at least 60 is required.
  • GRE or GMAT score

Fairleigh Dickinson University

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • TOEFL score of 70 or higher, IELTS score of at least 6.0, or PTE score of at least 53 is required.

Northeastern University

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • IELTS score of 6.5 with no band less than six or TOEFL score of 79 with at least 20 in writing or PTE score of 53 overall

    • TOEFL score of overall 80 with at least 21 in writing, 17 in listening, 19 in reading, and 20 in speaking
    • IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0
    • PTE score of 54 overall, with at least 47 in listening, 56 in writing, 51 in reading, and 53 in speaking

  • An undergraduate degree with a competitive GPA score
  • 1-2 years of work experience
  • GRE/GMAT score required for on-campus study
  • TOEFL score of 90 overall with at least 20 in each section or IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each band or PTE score of 61 overall with at least 53 in each band

STEM designation of Master of Commerce programs

Mostly master of Commerce in the US is offered as an MS program, which is STEM-designated and very helpful for students. Generally, the student gets one year of OPT, which helps get professional experience in the US. For STEM-designated courses, students get two years of OPT extensions, thus, a total of 3 years. However, master of commerce courses offered as MCom is not stem designated.

Scholarship and Financial Aid:

Limited scholarships are available for the Master of Commerce in the USA. The universities offer these scholarships on a merit basis. 

However, other funding and financial aid opportunities exist for international students in US universities. Since the master of commerce is working professionals with an undergraduate degree, they can find different on-campus jobs. 

The assistantship is a standard method of funding graduate studies for international students. Besides this, some universities offer fellowship programs for master students as well, which covers all the tuition and other fee and also provides a stipend.
