The TOEFL test is usually conducted in the form of an online test, or a paper-based test is offered.TOEFL test is held in two formats, TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) and TOEFL Paper-delivered test. The TOEFL iBT is a preferred exam, while the TOEFL paper-delivered Test is only available in locations that lack Internet services.
TOEFL test format
The TOEFL is a four-hour test with four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. All sections are timed. You will get 20 minutes on speaking and 50 minutes on writing. Reading is 60 to 80 minutes long, while listening ranges from 60 to 90 minutes. You will get 10 minutes to break between the Listening and Speaking sections.
The Reading section consists of questions on 3-4 passages with 10 questions, and these passages are on academic topics. New questions in the TOEFL internet-based test require filling out tables or completing summaries.
The Listening section consists of conversations involving a student, professor, or campus service provider. Each conversation and lecture passage is played only once.
The listening questions are intended to assess the ability to grasp key concepts, significant facts, consequences, relationships between ideas, knowledge organization, and the speaker's intent and attitude.
The Speaking section consists of 4 tasks. The evaluation is done on speaking spontaneously and conveying ideas clearly.
The Writing section assesses the ability of the test takers to write in an academic setting and consists of two tasks: one integrated and one independent.
