The TOEFL test is usually conducted in the form of an online test, or a paper-based test is offered.TOEFL test is held in two formats, TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) and TOEFL Paper-delivered test. The TOEFL iBT is a preferred exam, while the TOEFL paper-delivered Test is only available in locations that lack Internet services.
TOEFL test format
The TOEFL is a four-hour test with four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. All sections are timed. You will get 20 minutes on speaking and 50 minutes on writing. Reading is 60 to 80 minutes long, while listening ranges from 60 to 90 minutes. You will get 10 minutes to break between the Listening and Speaking sections.
Reading
The Reading section consists of questions on 3-4 passages with 10 questions, and these passages are on academic topics. New questions in the TOEFL internet-based test require filling out tables or completing summaries.
Listening
The Listening section consists of conversations involving a student, professor, or campus service provider. Each conversation and lecture passage is played only once.
The listening questions are intended to assess the ability to grasp key concepts, significant facts, consequences, relationships between ideas, knowledge organization, and the speaker's intent and attitude.
Speaking
The Speaking section consists of 4 tasks. The evaluation is done on speaking spontaneously and conveying ideas clearly.
Writing
The Writing section assesses the ability of the test takers to write in an academic setting and consists of two tasks: one integrated and one independent.
How can I book the TOEFL exam?
TOEFL can be booked via phone, online, by mail, or in person at the TOEFL test registration centre. Various test centres are available for the TOEFL applicant.
To book the TOEFL exam online, go to the official website of ETS and create your profile. Then, fill in all the details like your name, address, and Email ID (make sure your name matches your ID exactly). And finally, proceed to pay the application fee.
What do I need to take in the TOEFL exam?
The only thing you must take on the test day is a valid and acceptable ID which is a valid passport. No other personal items are allowed inside the test centre except your ID.
When will I receive my TOEFL results?
After around 6 days of your test date, you will receive an email informing you about the availability of your test score. To view your result, log in to your TOEFL account on the website and click view scores. Those who opt for the Special Home Edition of the TOEFL test will receive their results within 6 to 10 days from the test date.
