The Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management in Nepal is a 4-year course that equips students with knowledge and skills to tackle domestic and international tourist services such as : 

  • Handle, manage and plan recreation activities such as tours, treks, and rafting programs. 

  • Adopt environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism practices and management policies. 

  • Contribute to the country’s tourism development.

  • Look after domestic and international air ticketing 

There are also options for similar courses focusing on other areas of hospitality and tourism, such as hotel management in Nepal.

Overall, the specializations of BTTM focus on adventure tourism, sustainable tourism, history, culture and heritage tourism, tourism marketing and tourism promotion. These courses are affiliated with Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, and Kathmandu University. Purbanchal University and foreign universities.

Eligibility Criteria: 

To enrol in BTTM Program offered by TU, students must first meet the following academic requirement set for the program. 

  • Applicants/ students must pass 10+2 with a minimum of 45%(in any stream) from a recognized university or board.

  • The intermediate level/ +2 Should comprehend English as a full paper. 

  • Students need to pass the CMAT entrance examination conducted by Tribhuvan University. 

BTTM Entrance: CMAT Test 

CMAT, conducted by TU, is the primary requirement if you wish to study Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management in Nepal.

CMAT tests the students' verbal skills, quantitative skills, logical reasoning power and general knowledge. You can take the preparation class for this test or prepare it yourself.

To appear on the CMAT test, you will need the following:

  • Marksheet & Character certificate of SLC/SEE

  • Two recent passport-size photographs

  • Transcript, Character Certificate and Migration Certificate of intermediate level/ 10+2

You need to attain atleast 40% in CMAT. Only after qualifying in CMAT you can move forward to another stage of admission in BTTM. The other stages are group discussions and personal interviews.


Selection Process

A merit list selects students for the Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management Program. The merit list for the selection of students is prepared based on:

  • CMAT Entrance examination- 50%

  • +2 Result Performance- 30%

  • Group Discussion- 10% 

  • Interview - 10%

Internships in Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management 

As you can see in the table above, students need to complete 6 months of internship as a part of their curriculum in the last year, the 7th semester.

Tribhuvan International Airport has been offered an internship by Nepal Airlines Corporation since 2007 and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal since 2009. As of 2020, the Department of Immigration is providing internships to BTTM aspirants as well.

  • Event and Sport Management: Party planning, New Year events etc. 

  • Entertainment Areas: Clubs, parks, Casinos, etc. 

  • Accommodation and Catering: Resorts, Restaurants etc.
