The University of Jyväskylä (Finnish: Jyväskylän yliopisto) is a research-based educational institute located in Jyväskylä, Finland.

The University of Jyväskylä began as the first Finnish-speaking Teacher Training College (also known as Teacher Seminary). The University was established in 1863 AD. Uno Cygnaeus was passionate about education and developed a scheme for organising elementary school instruction in Finland. Cygnaeus' aim was realised when a teacher seminary was founded on the existing university site in Jyväskylä.

The University of Jyväskylä laid the groundwork for the world-famous education system. In 1937, the teacher seminary had renamed the College of Education and was given the right to award doctoral degrees. The institution began teaching and researching in the sciences in the 1960s and was renamed the University of Jyväskylä in 1967 AD.
