The University of Ilmenau (Ilmenau University of Technology, TU Ilmenau) is a public research university in Germany situated in the central German state of Thuringia.
The University of Ilmenau has a long history of engineering education. The private educational school Thüringisches Technikum in the center of Ilmenau founded the university in 1894 AD. In GDR times, a famous technical university obtained the title of Technical University in 1992 AD.
