The Institution of Hull is a public research university located in Kingston upon Hull, East Yorkshire, England. University College Hull was established in 1927. The main university site is Hull, which also houses the Hull York Medical School, a joint venture with the University of York. Hull University Union caters to students.

Lord Middleton was the university's first chancellor (1954-1969), followed by Lord Cohen (1970-1977), Lord Wilberforce (1978-1994), and Lord Armstrong (1994–2006). Virginia Bottomley (Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone) took over as chancellor in April 2006.

The Hull University Union is the primary source of student catering, services, and entertainment on campus. It is linked with over 100 student societies and operates a volunteer and charity platform.

The Athletic Union of the Students Union is home to over 50 sports groups, many of which play in BUCS national university leagues. In July 2012, the University Union was named Students' Union of the Year.
