The University of Hamburg has established in 1919 AD and is now regarded as one of Germany's top universities. The Academic Gymnasium, established in 1613, was the first to serve as the university's founding structure.

The University of Hamburg has more than 180 properties dispersed across the city. The Main Building is close to the Von-Melle-Park main campus on the Moorweide, across from Hamburg Dammtor station. In that region are the Hamburg State and University Library, the Auditorium, the Hamburg University Archive, and several other educational structures. Around Martin Luther King Square within the same neighborhood is where the second collection of university buildings is located. The Geomatikum, which is close to Schlump Metro Station, marks the western end of the campus.

The University of Hamburg takes pride in having state-of-the-art learning spaces. Modern labs, libraries, computer labs, and other amenities can be found on the campus. The Geological-Paleontological Museum is one of many observatories and museums maintained by the university. The university still has eight faculties, which offer more than 70 undergraduate programs in addition to 117 postgraduate and 117 vocational ones. The university is home to several faculties, such as those for the humanities, law, psychology, and human movement, as well as those for education, medicine, mathematics, informatics, the natural sciences, economics, social sciences, and business management.

The total student body is over 44,000 as of the 2020-2021 academic year, with 10,000 freshmen joining the university each year. There are nearly 5,500 doctoral students enrolled. Eight faculties offer 149 majors, with almost 700 professors involved in research and teaching. The university employs over 3,600 faculty members and over 7,000 technical and administrative staff. Scholarships

University of Hamburg merit scholarship program assists outstanding international students and doctoral researchers in all subject areas and degree levels who are socially committed and actively involved in an international context. The granting of a scholarship program allows recipients to focus entirely on their studies and allows them to develop their skills.

Students are entitled to a scholarship if

  • Have been enrolled in your subject at the University of Hamburg for at least two semesters and are pursuing a degree (students in two-year master's programs and doctoral researchers may apply after one semester).
  • Do not have German nationality.
  • Are ineligible for the federal student loan program.

The monthly funding limit is €850. Individual doctoral researchers may be granted a merit scholarship totaling €1,000 per month, depending on funding availability (roughly 2–3 merit scholarships are awarded per round).

Application Process

Eligibility for Masters or Ph.D. Courses

A bachelor's degree or equivalent is required for admission to a master's degree program. All international degree programs and degree programs offered in English are listed separately.

Suppose the student is applying for a master's degree program. In that case, the relevant faculty will recognize their foreign degree as part of the application process. The applicant is not required to apply for recognition of a foreign degree.

Eligibility for Bachelor's degrees

Candidates may apply to study at the Humboldt University of Berlin if the students have completed secondary education. In the case of foreign applicants, they should be successful in their country's examination.
