The University of Bedfordshire is a public research university having campuses in the English counties of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The University was founded in 1882. However, it was granted university status as the University of Luton in 1993.

Following the merging of the University of Luton and the Bedford campus of De Montfort University, the University of Bedfordshire has renamed the University of Bedfordshire with the consent of the Privy Council in 2006.

It has five campuses, three in Bedfordshire and two in Buckinghamshire. It is also present in London and Birmingham, as well as abroad, with a growing portfolio of international relationships in countries as diverse as Egypt, Vietnam, Oman, and Mauritius.

In 2014, the University participated in the Research Assessment Exercise. It climbed 22 places in the REF Power Ranking, the fourth-largest gain in the industry, with over half of its research rated as world-leading or globally good.

It received FairTrade certification in 2012. In 2019, the University finished ninth in the UK in the People and Planet University Green League; in 2020, it got the Eco Campus Platinum designation.

The University of Bedfordshire boasts a dynamic and international student community of over 20,000 students from over 100 countries. It collaborates with about 40 academic partners in the UK and abroad to provide a wide range of programs, from foundation degrees to doctorates.

More than 40% of its student body comes from households with no history of higher education engagement. Approximately 70% are senior returners to education, with more than half coming from black or ethnic minority origins.

Professor Rebecca Bunting was appointed Vice Chancellor in 2020. John Bercow, the former Speaker of the House of Commons, was the most recent Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire.

One of the most notable benefits offered by the university is individualized attention given to each student. It welcomes these students into an intellectually engaging environment where they can prepare for the jobs of their dreams. As a result, it attracts exceptional students from all over the world.

Graduate and undergraduate students are given early access to opportunities to participate in hands-on research by faculty members and departments. This allows students to supplement their education by collaborating with researchers on the cutting edge of their fields.

All University of Bedfordshire integrates theoretical study with hands-on experience sets them apart. The University of Bedfordshire worked with several other organizations to develop opportunities for experiential learning that could be integrated into the more traditional academic program.
