North Island College (NIC) North Island College (NIC) is a community college on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, mainly within the traditional and unceded lands of the Nuu-chah-nulth, Kwakwaka'wakw, and Coast Salish peoples.
Starting as a distance education institution in the 1970s, NIC has grown into a comprehensive post-secondary institution with various academic and career-training programs from one-year certificates to four-year degrees and post-graduate studies.
North Island Institution is a comprehensive community college that strongly emphasizes student achievement. College serves more than 9,000 students annually at our four campuses, with a learning centre and online and in-community learning.
Students at the university can select from a wide variety of courses and programs to meet any learning requirement and match a variety of lifestyles. These programs can take a variety of approaches.
Students are also served by a counseling/career centre, tutoring centre, prayer room, and offices for student organizations. The college community and external conference clients utilize a cafeteria/ coffee shop, dining rooms, and several conference rooms.
Alumni and former university students may be found throughout Canada and over 35 countries and North Island College has also produced countless award winners, government figures, and business leaders.

History
Since its inception in 1975, North Island College and its students have seen revolutionary development and growth.
The College, which began with a temporary trailer and a few converted school buses in Campbell River, today has a worldwide reputation for online education delivery and for incorporating Indigenous viewpoints into the curriculum of nursing schools across Canada.
Over 155,000 people have taken a course or finished a program at NIC over the last 40 years.
NIC's mandate has always been to deliver post-secondary education in a region greater than New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island combined.
