    The Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences is a medical education venture of the Nepali Army Welfare Fund. NAIHS is a prominent medical school in Nepal committed to modernizing medical education in light of the complicated nature of today's health concerns. It is located in Kathmandu in Bhandarkhal, Syanobharyang, near Shiva Temple, Devnagar, Maitri Tole.

    The Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences, also known as NAIHS, is a non-profit organization operating a medical and nursing college. It plans to open a polytechnic medical school and a dentistry college. NAIHS will create high-quality medical personnel not just for the army but also for the nation as a whole at a low cost. Medical education is prohibitively expensive for the majority of Nepalese. NAIHS will give worthy applicants inexpensive medical and health science education possibilities among serving army troops, siblings, and spouses of current and ex-army personnel.

    The Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences was founded to create professional and skilled human resources in the medical sector by providing an optimal educational environment and improving the quality of medical services provided by the Nepali Army and the nation. It is supervised by the Nepali Army's Directorate General of Welfare Planning. Its advisory council comprises all Nepali Army's critical directorates, led by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

    NAIHS also provides medical education to the general public, besides the offspring of regular and retired army personnel, with the provision of fixed quotas. NAIHS now offers 19 Postgraduate courses, 5 Bachelor level programs (MBBS, BSc. Nursing, BNS, BPH, and BSc. MLT), and 6 diploma level programs (PCL nursing, General Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Lab technology, and Diagnostic Radiology) through its three schools (College of Medicine, College of Nursing, and College of Medical Polytechnic).

    NAIHS  for the academic year 2078/79 has been allotted MBBS-100, BSc. Nursing-40, BNS-40, BPH-20, and BSc.MLT-12 seats.

    The Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences is associated with Tribhuvan University (TU), and Nepal Health Research Council approves the courses offered by the institute.

    Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS) has three components

    • College of Medicine, NAIHS (NAIHS-COM),
    • College of Nursing, NAIHS (NAIHS-CON),
    • College of Medical Polytechnic, NAIHS (NAIHS-CMP). 

    NAIHS has established itself as one of the finest schools for health professions education and is a popular choice among Nepalese medical students. It aims to address Nepal's current medical, paramedical, and nursing health professionals by embracing all health-related professions.

    Shree Birendra Hospital, located in Chauni, Kathmandu, is the teaching hospital of NAIHS. The Nepali Army's tertiary level, modern, central, and referral hospital. The hospital now has 635 beds and provides nearly all sorts of medical treatments to serving army soldiers, retired army personnel, civilian academic employees, and staff of NAIHS and their families.

    Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS)’s offered programs are affiliated with Tribhuvan University (TU). So, the main intake of NAIHS is in September. 

    Scholarships

    Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences offers 'tuition fee waiver scholarships to qualifying Nepali Army candidates. Tuition expenses are waived for qualifying sons and daughters of Nepali Army martyr soldiers.

    Similarly, a qualifying daughter or son of a Nepali Army veteran who was completely crippled while in service receives a tuition cost discount of 100%. Few qualifying individuals are eligible for rank-based 'tuition fee waiver' scholarships, with 50% waiver in the 'officer' category, 65% waiver in the 'junior commissioned officer' (JCO) category, and 80% waiver in the 'other ranks' or category. These tuition price exemptions are available to the children of both active and former Nepali Army soldiers.

    An additional spot with a 50% tuition cost remission is provided for qualifying NAIHS staff sons and daughters. Candidates are admitted under these scholarship quotas precisely in the order of merit stated by TU-IOM.

    Application Process

    Admissions Procedure:

    • Candidates for M.B.B.S. admission must have finished their +2 in Science with a minimum of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Candidates must also pass an admission examination administered by the Institute of Medicine, TU.
    • The Doctors who have finished their MBBS and are registered with their country's medical council are eligible for the postgraduate medical program at National Medical College. Candidates must also pass the P.G. admission examination administered by the Institute of Medicine, TU.

    The following are the entrance procedures for nursing programs:

    • PCL: To get admitted to the National Medical College, aspirants must have an average mark of 50% or more in S.L.C. and pass the CTEVT entrance examination.
    • B.N.: Candidates for the PCL must have a minimum of two years of work experience and pass the Tribhuwan University admission test.
    • B.Sc. : Applicants for B.Sc. in Nursing must have a minimum aggregate score of 50% or above in +2 Science or an equivalent degree. Applicants must pass the TU's entrance exams to be admitted to National Medical College.
    • M.N.: To be admitted to the Masters's program in Nursing, applicants must first pass the TU's P.G. nursing entrance test.

    Admission requirements for College of Medical Polytechnic, NAIHS (NAIHS-CMP):

    • Passed for SLC Old Percentage System or Equivalent.
    • For SEE, a new grading system with mandatory English, Math, and Science with a minimum C grade and a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2 is required.
    • At least 68.33% from CTEVT or 66.67% from TU for TSLC.
    • The CTEVT Entrance Exam must be passed.
