A national law university in India, National Law University, Delhi (NLUD), offers undergraduate and graduate-level coursework. One of India's national law schools, NLUD, is located in Sector-14, Dwarka, New Delhi, -110078, and was created under the Bar Council of India's five-year law degree format. Under the direction of Ranbir Singh, the founder-director and vice-chancellor of the Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad), who was appointed the university's vice-chancellor, the National Law University, Delhi, was set up in 2008 by Act No. 1 of 2008 of NCT Delhi in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Then-Indian President Pratibha Patil performed the ceremony of inauguration. From makeshift structures, the institution began operations in 2008. The college finished its construction and was operational by 2010.
The University's primary goal is to develop and deliver comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and socially relevant legal education. Through this instruction, we hope to advance moral and ethical standards, strengthen the rule of law, and advance the goals outlined in the Indian Constitution. The University also promotes the spread of legal knowledge and its importance to national advancement to enhance the public's capacity for analyzing and presenting current issues of public concern and their legal ramifications. Through these procedures, the community is encouraged to become more conscious of the law and to pursue political, social, and economic justice.
The institution sincerely uses legal education for justice to bring about social, political, and economic transformation. Every member of this institution should be honored for their contributions to the advancement of social justice. Our students will not only be prepared to face the demands of the new millennium and preserve the Constitution of India but also be formed as change agents as the nation accomplishes its social and developmental goals.
A five-year undergraduate B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) degree is available from NLUD. A total of 110 seats are available, with an extra 10 seats designated for foreigners (OCI/PIO). The undergraduate curriculum is built on a credits-based structure, with optional seminar courses for supplementary learning that are tailored to the student's interests. A total of fifty disciplines, five every semester, are included in the curriculum, which is spread across 10 semesters. Before graduating, students must turn in fifty research projects. The rigorous curriculum continues, which has raised questions about student stress levels.
In addition, NLUD provides a one-year LL.M. program. The University administers a written admission test, followed by an interview. Along with the Doctor of Philosophy, it also offers Postgraduate Diploma programs in Urban Environmental Management, Judging and Court Management, and IPR and Patent Law (Ph.D.).
Unlike other National Law Universities, NLUD does not use the Common Law Admission Test; rather, admissions to the undergraduate (UG) B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) program are made through the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET). This test is administered by the university each year.
