Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a public research university in the English city of Liverpool. The institution may be traced back to the Liverpool Mechanics School of Arts, founded in 1823.

This was eventually combined to become Liverpool Polytechnic. Following an Act of Parliament, the Liverpool Polytechnic was renamed Liverpool John Moores University in 1992. Sir John Moores, a local businessman and philanthropist who gave to the university's forerunner organizations inspired the name.

In 2019/20, the university had 25,050 students, of whom 20,105 were undergraduate students and 4,945 were postgraduate students, ranking it 30th in the UK by total student population.

It belongs to the University Alliance, Northern Consortium, and European University Association.

This contemporary university is integral to the life of Liverpool while also being globally ambitious.

LJMU establishes worldwide collaborations to support world-class research and cooperation.

As a consequence, in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, over three-quarters (73.1%) of the University's research was rated as "world-leading" or "internationally good."

The University's essential work addresses big worldwide concerns influencing living in the United Kingdom. And the University's ongoing efforts to improve the student experience are reflected in the University's student satisfaction numbers, which continue to rise year after year.

LJMU has spent GBP 160 million in the previous 10 years, resulting in thousands of cutting-edge learning spaces and state-of-the-art amenities. This includes their newly constructed Student Life Building, completed in 2021 in the center of Liverpool.

This facility embodies the essence of the school and places students at the core of all it does, providing students with easy access to vital student-facing services as well as great breakout and leisure areas.

Aside from that, the institution has three libraries, one on each of its campuses. The LRCs' library holdings contain over 68,500 physical resources, with over 1,600 workstations available daily for students.

It also has approximately 16,000 electronic books and 5,000 electronic journals. The student union, the Liverpool Students' Union, represents the student body. Students can also participate in a variety of sports.

Sports teams at the university include badminton, volleyball, tennis, rugby league, rugby union, hockey, basketball, cycling, cricket, football, netball, swimming,  and American football. Many sports teams attend BUCS events.

As a result, LJMU provides an extraordinary student experience with a reputation for high-quality teaching, innovation, student support mechanisms, and ground-breaking research, all in one of the world's most lively and cosmopolitan cities.
