Hetauda Campus (IOF-HC) of the Institute of Forestry is Nepal's first and only institute to focus on Forestry and Natural Resource Management education and training. In 1947, the Department of Forestry established the Nepal Forestry Institute in Singh Durbar, Kathmandu.

After its initial location in Hetauda, the Indian Co-operation Mission relocated it to Supping (Bhim Phedi) in 1957, then again to Hetauda in 1965 to make use of the more suitable physical facilities (ICM). In July 1972, the Institute of Forestry became a department of Tribhuvan University. Since 1981, Hetauda has been the only place in the country where you could earn a two-year certificate in forestry. World Bank, ICA, and USAID provided financial and technical support throughout the campus's construction (USAID). Therefore, the country can keep up with the rising need for qualified natural resource managers.

The Bachelor's and Master's Degree programs in Forestry at the Institute of Forestry (IOF)/Hetauda Campus have been rigorously and methodically maintained to ensure the highest possible academic standards.

After introducing a Master of Science (MSc) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in forestry in 2004, it developed into a full-fledged institute. The IOF has provided education in several NRM subfields, adapting its course offerings as new information becomes available. Forest management, community forestry, agroforestry, ecotourism, park and recreation management, environmental science, wildlife, protected area management, and soil conservation and watershed management are all included in the current curriculum alongside the basic science and forestry courses. • Students with an Intermediate of Science (I.Sc. ), Technical Certificate Level (TCL) in Forestry, Diploma in Forestry, +2 in Science, A-level or equivalent degree with at least 100-full-mark-courses in mathematics and biology, and a minimum of fifty per cent marks in the aggregate may apply for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Forestry Program. Students seeking access to the B.Sc. Forestry programs must pass an IOF-administered entrance test and be selected based on merit scores.
