Established on: 2000

Under the direction of Dr. Binayak P. Rajbhandari, a group of agricultural professionals founded the Himalayan College of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (HICAST) in Nepal in 2000. Dr. Binayak P. Rajbhandari was the concept author of the public-private partnership method. The college's mission is to educate students and contribute to the disciplines of agricultural and applied sciences across the board, from the farmer's intuitive knowledge to the sciences and from theoretical knowledge to practical domains. "Agricultural Revolution via Quality Education" is its motto. In Kirtipur City, new college buildings are being built.

The graduates of HICAST will receive a high-quality education, as is its commitment. The institution recently graduated more than 500 students with bachelor's and master's degrees, and they all performed exceptionally well in their chosen fields of employment. Some have pursued higher education on full scholarships in the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Norway, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, China, and India. After finishing their further education, some HICASTians have returned to Nepal, working effectively with numerous national and international organizations. Many HICAST graduates have also entered the government service and worked in various Nepalese regions and projects.

Along with academic programs, HICAST has been providing nationwide outreach services through mobile veterinary clinics, awareness campaigns, and training programs. In the fields of agricultural, livestock, and veterinary science, as well as food processing technology, including dairy and meat technology, HICAST has a solid group of resource people with a lot of expertise.
