The Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada established Crandall University in 1949. (CBAC). It continues to fund the University and elect and confirm the Board of Governor's appointees. The University is accountable for offering outstanding education to tomorrow's leaders.
Crandall University is a corporation managed by a Board of Governors elected yearly from among the University's supporters.
Crandall University's Senate sets all academic requirements. It comprises the President of Crandall University, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, faculty members, Academic Deans, representatives from the student population, alumni, the Board of Governors, and the CBAC.
UBBTS was renamed Atlantic Baptist Institution in 1970 after becoming a Bible and junior Christian liberal arts college in 1968. (ABC). ABC was able to issue complete Bachelor of Arts degrees in 1983 due to a relentless drive to increase the school's staff and enhance the level of instruction.
Atlantic Baptist University (ABU) was renamed to reflect increased student enrolment and academic accreditation. At the time, it was located on Salisbury Road, west of Moncton's downtown business center. In 1996, the University relocated to a new campus on Gorge Road, north of the core business center.
The ABU sports teams got the nickname The Blue Tide in 2003. The University was Moncton's first and only English-language University. The New Brunswick Legislative Assembly approved the Atlantic Baptist University Act in 2008.
The institution's name was changed to Crandall University on August 21, 2009, in honor of Rev. Joseph Crandall, a pioneering Baptist pastor in the maritime region. Crandall Athletics became "The Crandall Chargers" once the University's name was changed.
