    The College of Medical Sciences (CMS) is connected with Kathmandu University. It is recognized by the Nepal Medical Council, Sri Lanka Medical Council, and the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom (UK). It was founded on August 8, 1993. The college is in the Chitwan district of Bharatpur.

    With the current idea of the globalization of medical education as well as hospital patient care, the College of Medical Sciences has worked to educate undergraduates to generate high-quality medical employees. This school is a prominent medical college in the heart of Nepal. Besides having distinguished and experienced professors endowed with international renown, it follows a student-centered curriculum with educational goals for various courses.

    The curriculum is both horizontal and vertically connected, with few passive lectures. Students are encouraged to engage in problem-based learning. Today, the medical college has highly skilled and experienced staff from surrounding countries. Five students have already graduated, and there are four more on the way from Nepal, India, and SAARC nations. 

    General objectives:

    • To train excellent physicians and capable managers for primary level health care and facilities to provide the best health care services to the local community's doorstep.
    • To train specialists to provide adequate and proper health care delivery systems.
    • To aid the government in promoting and standardizing medical education and creating a qualified workforce to meet the community's needs.
    • To prepare future doctors to comprehend the community's socio-emotional needs and undertake research, allowing them to pursue postgrad and offer cost-effective services in health care.
    • To equip students to comprehend and encourage various medical systems to enhance and embrace this profession's moral and philosophical principles.
    • To prepare the school to play an active role in developing Nepal's health care delivery system in general and the Chitwan district in particular.

    Specific objectives:

    • To train medical students to become competent primary care doctors.
    • Train medical students to be leaders and better managers in community health care.
    • To raise student understanding of the need to plan and carry out preventative, promotional, and curative health care actions in the community.
    • To teach medical students to select acceptable patients for referral to higher facilities at the appropriate time.
    • To prepare medical students to be competent in promptly addressing crises at their workstations to save lives.
    • To train medical students to be competent in providing health education.
    • Motivate students to do community-based research on avoidable illnesses and offer control and eradication techniques.
    • To encourage students to concentrate in fields where medical professors are in limited supply.
    • To prepare students to recognize and respect the psychosocial elements of patients and to deal with them appropriately.

    Qualification Requirements

    • MBBS/BDS: Must have finished 10+2, or comparable credentials, with a minimum of 50% in each subject of Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) (which in general is similar to 'C' grades for Sri Lankan A-Level and 'D' grades for International A Levels such as EDEXCEL/London) and 50% in aggregate.

    OR Completed a Bachelor of Science Degree, acknowledged by the University, with one of the relevant subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and at least one other prescribed science subject of study up to the ancillary level, and managed to score not less than a total aggregate of 50% marks, given that such applicant passed the previous qualifying examination.

    OR completed a course comparable to I. Sc. (Biological Group) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as primary topics after obtaining a Certificate Level in Health Sciences from Dhulikhel Medical Institute, Kathmandu University, and achieving a minimum of 50% in aggregate.

    • MD: The applicant must be registered with NMC on a permanent or provincial basis. Alternatively, the candidate must be registered with the relevant country's Medical Council. A year of experience is required.
    • BSc Nursing: Passed 10+2 Science or equivalent (including Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) with 50% aggregate total marks or CGPA 2.4 OR Secured the percentage comparable to the above qualification in certificate level programs (A-Level) with alternative grading systems OR

    Applicants who have passed the National Examination Board's Health Science Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy) comprising Physics, Chemistry, and Biology

    AND Attained a minimum of 50% aggregate in total marks in both the Diploma and the Examination for Equivalence AND Registered with Nepal Health Professional Council, Nepal Pharmacy Council, or Nepal Ayurveda Councils per linked educational program.
