Chemnitz University of Technology (German: Technische Universität Chemnitz) is a German public university in Chemnitz.

Chemnitz Institution of Technology is the third largest university in Saxony, with about 9,000 students. It began as Königliche Gewerbschule (Royal Mercantile College) in 1836 and was promoted to Technische Hochschule (a university of technology) in 1963. The Chemnitz University of Technology is one of the region's largest employers, employing roughly 1,500 people in science, engineering, and management.

Chemnitz Institution of Technology was aggressively encouraged to continue as Saxony's third university, alongside the University of Leipzig and TU Dresden. The previous Pädagogische Hochschule Zwickau was integrated and renamed Technische Universität Chemnitz-Zwickau in 1992.

Chemnitz university of technology's profile evolved from technical to more comprehensive with the introduction of the faculties of Economics and Business Administration (1993) and Humanities (1994). Another rebranding occurred in 1997, and the university was given its current name, Chemnitz University of Technology. The Saxon state government discontinued elementary school principal training in Chemnitz in September of the same year. Students last enrolled in the teacher training programs in the winter semester of 1999/2000. The state administration decided to concentrate on teacher education in Leipzig and Dresden. These measures were met with widespread opposition not only from students but also from the Faculty of Humanities.

Chemnitz university of technology had 159 professorships distributed across its eight faculties in 2009, the year the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences was separated from the Faculty of Humanities. After the Institution of Leipzig and TU Dresden, Chemnitz University of Technology has more than 9,000 students, making it the third-largest university in Saxony.

The Cluster of Excellence MERGE - Technology Fusion for Multifunctional Lightweight Structures at the university received funding from the German federal and state governments' Excellence Initiative up until 2017. MERGE became a core part of the university on October 31, 2019, after the extra funds ran out. The university is organized into the following eight faculties:
