Capilano University

    Capilano University
    Established on: 1968

North Vancouver, in the province of British Columbia, Canada, is home to Capilano University (CapU), a public higher education institution that strongly emphasizes education.  It is perched on the slopes of the Sea-to-Sky Corridor and the Sunshine Coast from its vantage point on the slopes of the North Shore Mountains.

This educational establishment was named in honor of Head Joe Capilano, who served as the chief of the Squamish people from 1895 to 1910. His tenure as chief spanned the years 1895 through 1910.

The degree programs that Capilano University provides have received the seal of approval from the British Columbian government's Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills, and Training.

The Institution Act of British Columbia is the piece of law that confers degree-granting power to the university. Without this authorization, the institution would not be able to function.

When the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (also known as NWCCU) in Washington, one of the six major regional agencies in the United States that the United States Department of Education recognizes, granted accreditation to CapU in 2012, the university made history by becoming the first university in Canada to do so.

The certification was granted by one of the six major regional agencies in the United States that the United States Department of Education recognizes.

The Blues, the athletic teams competing for Capilano University, have been crowned champions of 61 provincial and 15 national championships by the Pacific Western Athletic Association and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, respectively. The Blues are known as "The Blues."

In 1968, in response to the demand for a public institution that would serve the local communities directly northwest of Vancouver, school boards and residents of the North Shore and Howe Sound came together to establish what is now known as the University of British Columbia as Capilano College.

The North Shore and Howe Sound are located in British Columbia, Canada. In the beginning, there were 784 pupils registered for lessons. Since the provincial government of British Columbia elevated Capilano College to the status of a university in 2008, the number of students enrolled at the educational establishment has climbed to around 12,700 yearly.

The educational opportunities made available by Capilano University include professional, career, and vocation-oriented programs in addition to liberal arts programs that are recognized nationally and globally and that may lead to degrees, diplomas, and certifications. These academic options can be found on the university's website.
