    B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) was established on January 18, 1993. It was later upgraded to an independent Health Sciences University on October 28, 1998, with the mission of developing a socially responsible and competent health workforce, providing health care, and engaging in innovative health research. The Institute, located in Eastern Nepal, has expanded its ongoing health services throughout the region. This university is named after Bisheshwar Prasad Koirala, Nepal's visionary social and economic empowerment leader and ardent supporter of national cohesion.

    This Institute is intended to be one of the most compelling examples of Nepal-India cooperation. The Institute is divided into four colleges: the Faculty of Medicine, the College of Dental Surgery, the College of Nursing, and the School of Public Health and Community Medicine. The University also runs a 700-bed Teaching Hospital and offers postgraduate, undergraduate, and university diploma programs.

    The Institute awards Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees and many certifications. The MBBS program began on March 10, 1994, while the postgraduate programs commenced in 1999. The institute maintains its own College of Dental Surgery, which admits 60 students each year for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree through competitive admission tests. On the university grounds, the following nine independent Dental Departments operate smoothly:

     Qualification Requirements

    • MBBS/BDS/Nursing:

    Passed 10+2 Science or similar (with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) with 50% aggregate in total marks or CGPA 2.4 OR Obtained the Percentage corresponding to the above eligibility in regards to the certificate level programs (A-Level) with different grading system OR Candidates who have cleared the Health Science Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma. The applicants must have attained at least 50% aggregate total marks in both the Diploma and the Examination for Equivalence and be Registered with the Nepal Health Professional Council, Nepal Pharmacy Council, or Nepal Ayurveda Council.

    • MD:

    MBBS or equivalent from a government-approved institution in Nepal.

    Registered in Nepal Medical Council Registered in the applicant's home country's medical council for international applicants.

    One year of experience is required (except for MDGP and MD/MS in Basic Medical Sciences).

    To be qualified for the merit list, applicants must get a minimum of 50% (Pass Marks) in the Medical Education Commission Entrance Examinations.
