Birat Medical College and Teaching Hospital
    Established on: 2014

Birat Medical College (BMC) is Nepal's newest medical school. BMC began as an extension program of Kathmandu University in 2014 and is preparing for its fifth intake. BMC welcomes 75 national and foreign students to pursue their lifelong passions and aspirations yearly.

Even though BMC is relatively new, its history in Nepal is essential. Birat Medical College and Teaching Hospital, as it is presently known, began in 1991 with a single-bed clinic. As one of the first private hospitals outside of the city, many patients benefit not just from not having to go to India or Kathmandu, but its facility was also able to give healthcare services to nearby Indian patients.

In keeping with this objective, the institution began its academic mission by founding Birat Health College (BHC), a nursing school. Birat Health College enrolls about 900 students in 11 different health allied areas. BHC has created thousands of much-needed health workers for Nepal and assisted Birat Nursing Home in maintaining its health workforce demand and quality.

Kathmandu University granted Birat Medical College (BMC) an extension program in August 2014. As an extension of Kathmandu University's School of Medical Science, this fully approved college now offers an MBBS program (KUSMS). BMC's finances and operations are independent, although KU directly supervises academics, examinations, and the teaching calendar.

    BMC offers the following courses:

    • BSc Nursing
    • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)
    • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

    Goals:

    • To create humanistic, talented, intellectually disciplined, and authoritative medical practitioners dedicated to the profession's highest principles and standards and serve as role models for the people they treat, lead and serve.
    • To educate and inspire the next generation of leaders in health care, biomedical sciences, health services research, and academic medicine to seek, provide, and sustain unmatched service, teaching, and research achievements.
    • To deliver high-quality, comprehensive, patient-centered, culturally sensitive, compassionate, and innovative health care to all.
    • Encourage academics, students, and staff to engage in sustained, vigorous professional and personal growth, productivity, responsibility, integrity, and synergistic teamwork.

    Why choose Medicine at BMC?

Birat Medical College (BMC), Kathmandu University, is a leader in Nepal's medical community. Students join our large community of researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders who work together to deliver a world-class medical education. Here are some of the benefits of studying medicine at BMC.

    • Learn from the best: BMC is committed to excellence, which underlies all campus activities, notably teaching and research. BMC recruits foreign professors with substantial experience working in several research institutes and prestigious institutions domestically and globally. These academic leaders, many of whom hold doctorates, pass on their professional knowledge to students, who subsequently earn the acknowledged credentials and skills necessary in today's challenging medical environment.
    • Commitment to teaching: BMC provides high-quality instruction to its diverse student group across all areas. Its teaching faculty are not only specialists in their fields, but the majority also practice in their fields, establishing a solid relationship between theory and practice. The teaching is relevant to the needs of both domestic and foreign students and builds on the experiences its students bring to their studies. It encourages active participation and cooperation through new delivery techniques such as online learning tools.
    • A highly supportive educational environment: The school's modest size (about 100 kids in each year group) allows staff to get to know children individually, which fosters a welcoming environment. As we strive to offer a supportive atmosphere where you may succeed, you will be assigned a mentor who will be concerned with your well-being and academic growth. Its advising system is well-regarded throughout the University.
