St. Ambrose Institution is a private, coeducational Catholic university that offers four-year liberal arts undergraduate programs, preprofessional and career-oriented programs, and master's degrees.

St. Ambrose University was founded in 1882 by the Diocese of Davenport and is steeped in tradition and prestige. Its Catholic identity is reflected in its personnel and activities, as well as its ecumenical outlook and legacy of service.

It is in Davenport, Iowa, one of the Quad Cities that border the east-west stretch of the Mississippi River that connects eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Davenport is the biggest municipality in a metropolitan area of 389,000 people, with a population of more than 100,000 people.

The current organization of the University, which went into effect on July 1, 1988, contains three colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, and the College of Human Services.
