Medicines are used in all healthcare settings.Safe and effective management is central to healthcare delivery and patient safety.It is therefore vital that health care practitioners have the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively handle medicines, as well as the ability to make informed judgments in relation to the complex issues that arise out of medicine management.

  • It provides an opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills in medicines optimisation and develop your critical thinking skills to enable you to safely expand and develop your practice as part of the comprehensive and holistic management of the patient.
  • You will study safe and effective medicines handling and administration, medication reconciliation, legal, professional and ethical aspects, drug interactions, side effects and polypharmacy.
  • You will be taught by experienced academic staff and clinicians with expertise in medicines optimisation and non-medical prescribing.

Teaching and assessment

The course is delivered over 12 weeks. You are required to attend the University for a total of 15 hours and will also complete a period of work-based learning.

Teaching is delivered through a range of teaching methods including lectures, work-based learning and guided independent study.
