In this article, we will discuss the exam pattern and selection process for getting admission to MICA. We will also provide tips on preparing for the selection process and increasing your chances of admission to this prestigious institute.

Exam Pattern for MICA Admission

MICA conducts its entrance exam called the MICA Admission Test (MICAT) for admission to its postgraduate programs. MICAT is a computer-based test that evaluates a candidate's creative thinking, analytical ability, verbal ability, and logical reasoning aptitude.

MICAT is conducted twice yearly - once in December and once in February/March. The exam is divided into three sections - Section A, Section B, and Section C. Section A is a common section for all candidates. At the same time, Section B and Section C are specific to the course for which a candidate applies.

  • Section A comprises 25 questions from General Awareness (GA), Verbal Ability (VA), and Quantitative Ability (QA). The time duration for Section A is 1 hour and 45 minutes.
  • Section B comprises four descriptive questions that evaluate a candidate's writing skills. The time duration for Section B is 35 minutes.
  • Section C comprises 36 questions from areas such as Divergent-Convergent Reasoning (DCR), Visual Reasoning (VR), and Logical Reasoning (LR). The time duration for Section C is 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Candidates who clear the MICAT exam are then called for Group Exercise (GE) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds.

Selection Process for MICA Admission

The selection process for MICA admission comprises three stages - MICAT, GE, and PI.

MICAT

The first stage of the selection process is the MICAT exam. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifying criteria of the MICAT exam are then shortlisted for the GE and PI rounds.

Group Exercise (GE)

The second stage of the selection process is the GE round. The GE round evaluates a candidate's communication, leadership, teamwork, and analytical skills. The GE round is a group discussion round where candidates are divided into groups of 8-10 and given a topic to discuss.

Personal Interview (PI)

The final stage of the selection process is the PI round. The PI round is a one-on-one interview with a panel of MICA faculty members. The PI round evaluates a candidate's personality, communication skills, clarity of thought, and knowledge of the communication industry.
