The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a premier fashion institution in India that offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs in design, management, and technology. The institute conducts an entrance exam called the Graduate Aptitude Test in Design (GAT) for admission to its graduate-level design programs. The test is a crucial step in the selection process for the institute. It assesses the candidate's aptitude and creativity in design, observation, design sensitivity, and problem-solving abilities.

The GAT is divided into two parts - a written test and a situation test. The written test is a multiple-choice test that includes sections on English comprehension, general knowledge and current affairs, quantitative ability, and communication ability. The English comprehension section tests the candidate's understanding of the English language, including grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. The general knowledge and current affairs section test the candidate's understanding of current events and general knowledge. The quantitative ability section tests the candidate's mathematical and logical abilities. The communication ability section tests candidates' ability to express themselves clearly and effectively.

The situation test is a hands-on test that assesses the candidate's design, creativity, and innovation skills. In this test, the candidate is given a design problem and asked to present their solution in a model or visual presentation. This test is designed to assess the candidate's ability to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions to design problems. The situation test is an integral part of the selection process as it helps the institute select candidates who can become successful designers.
