Bachelor of Architecture in India is a 5 years programme pursued after completing a 10+2 in Science from a recognized board with a minimum of 50 % overall aggregate. For admission to Architecture in India, one should pass the entrance exam, like the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA).

NATA is a compulsory exam one has to pass for admission to first-year BArch and is conducted by the Council of Architecture.    

India is a country with lots of scope for Architecture. A beginner in Architecture can earn around 1 Lakh, which increases depending on the experience later and can go to a minimum of 5 Lakh per year.

Two options are available for students interested in Architecture studies in India- a five-year undergraduate (B.Arch) or 2 years post-college master's program (M. Arch). 

The architecture course includes subjects like Architectural Design, Basic Design, Building Technology & Materials, Theory of Structures, Architectural Drawing & Graphics, History of Architecture & Human Settlements, Building Services and Building Sciences.

Eligibility:

Students must fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility for pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture in India:

  • Students must have completed 10 +2 or equivalent with Mathematics as one of the subjects from a recognized board. 
  • The student should have scored a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in 10 +2 
  • Students must have passed the entrance exam.  

What is the NATA exam? 

NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) is a national-level examination conducted by the Council of Architecture in India. It's mandatory for admission to undergraduate courses in architecture in India.

NATA exam measures sketching skills, observation style, proportion sense, and how critically a student can think. Students appearing in the NATA exam should have passed 10+2 or equivalent exams, securing a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

The 2022 NATA includes 

  • 125 questions 
  • Total marks of 200
  • 180 minutes duration 

The steps for registering for NATA 2023 are as follows: 

  • Fill out the NATA application form by logging in 
  • Scan and upload the required documents
  • Pay the application fee for NATA 2022

Another entrance exam valid in India for admission to the Bachelor of Architecture is JEE Main Paper 2. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is required for applying for a Bachelor of Architecture in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, and in a few private colleges.
