Abdul Kalam Technological University (AKTU) is a state university in Kerala, India. It was formerly known as Kerala Technological University (KTU) and was established in 2014. The University is named after Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India and a renowned scientist.

AKTU offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various engineering and technology fields. The University offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programs in fields like Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Information Technology.

In addition to B.Tech, AKTU also offers Master of Technology (M.Tech) programs in fields like Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering. The University also offers a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program.

B.Tech Admission

Eligibility

To be eligible for admission to the B.Tech program, candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Computer Science as optional subjects. Candidates who have completed a diploma in engineering with a minimum of 50% marks are also eligible for a lateral entry admission to the second year of the B.Tech program.

Entrance Exam

To secure admission to the B.Tech program at AKTU, candidates must appear for the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) entrance exam conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. The KEAM exam is a state-level entrance exam that tests candidates' knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The exam is typically held in April, and the results are announced in May. Based on the KEAM scores, candidates are shortlisted for the centralised counselling process conducted by AKTU.

M.Tech Admission

Eligibility

Abdul Kalam Technological University (AKTU) offers Master of Technology (M.Tech) programs in various engineering fields for candidates who wish to specialise and advance their knowledge in their respective fields. To be eligible for admission to the M.Tech program, candidates must have a B.Tech degree in the relevant field with a minimum of 60% marks. Candidates who have completed a Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in the appropriate field with a minimum of 60% marks are also eligible for admission to some M.Tech programs.

Entrance Exam

AKTU Entrance Exam is a state-level entrance exam conducted by AKTU for admission to M.Tech programs. To secure admission to the M.Tech program at AKTU, candidates must appear for one of the qualifying entrance exams, such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) or Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) entrance exam or AKTU Entrance Exam. GATE is a national-level entrance exam that tests candidates' knowledge in their respective engineering fields. KUFOS entrance exam is conducted for admission to M.Tech programs in Ocean Technology offered by AKTU in association with Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies.

The GATE exam is typically held in February; the results are announced in March. The KUFOS entrance exam and AKTU Entrance Exam are usually held in June, and the results are reported in July. Based on the entrance exam scores, candidates are shortlisted for the centralised counselling process conducted by AKTU.

MCA Admission

Eligibility

The eligibility for MCA admissions to Abdul Kalam Technological University are:

A BCA/Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Computer Science or a degree of equal standing.

Or, passed the B.Sc., B.Com., or B.A. with Mathematics at the 10+2 level or the graduate level (with additional bridge Courses as per the norms of the concerned University).

Or else Pass the qualifying examination with a minimum grade point average of 50% (or 45% for candidates from reserved categories).

Entrance Exam

AKTU administers the state-level AKTU Entrance Test to candidates seeking admission to MCA programs. Candidates must take one of the required entrance tests, such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (KUFOS) entrance exam, or AKTU Entrance Exam, to be admitted to the MCA program at AKTU. The GATE exam measures applicants' expertise in their chosen engineering subjects nationally. For admission to MCA programs in Ocean Technology offered by AKTU in collaboration with Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, the KUFOS entrance exam is held.

Counselling

After the KEAM exam results are announced, candidates who have cleared the exam must register and participate in the online centralised counselling process conducted by AKTU. The counselling process involves:

  • Filling in the required details.
  • Selecting the preferred course and college.
  • Paying the counselling fee.
  • Completing the document verification process.

Candidates are advised to read the counselling guidelines carefully and follow the instructions to ensure a smooth counselling process.

During the counselling process, candidates are offered seats in various colleges affiliated with AKTU based on their KEAM scores and the availability of seats. Candidates can choose their preferred college and branch based on their interests and career aspirations. Once a seat is allotted to a candidate, they must pay the admission fee and report to the allotted college for further formalities.
