A recognized bachelor’s degree of a minimum of 90 credit hours and the requirements for two different subjects plus a breadth component as follows:

  • 18 credit hours in a teachable major

  • 12 credit hours in a teachable minor

  • 6 credit hours of English literature or French literature

  • 6 credit hours Social Studies (History or Geography)

  • 6 credit hours in Mathematics (or Statistics)

  • 6 credit hours of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology or Physics)

Students must fulfil this criterion in Secondary Education. 

  • First Teachable Area/Second Teachable Area: A concentration of at least 30 credit hours of coursework in a single discipline from below/ A concentration of at least 18 credit hours in a single discipline from the coursework below. 

  • Intermediate/ Secondary Teachables: English, Maths, French, Fine Arts, Technology, Science (Earth Sciences, Oceanography or Environmental Studies) and Social (History, Geography, Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Economics, African Canadian Studies, or Mi'kmaq Studies. 

  • Anthropology can also be used as a second teachable area only.

Applicants must meet the minimum Simon Fraser University requirements for admission in the program, including a 2.0 graduation GPA.

IELTS: At least an l band score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.

TOEFL iBT: An overall score of 88 in TOEFL or better with a minimum score of 20 in the four communication components: listening, speaking, writing, and reading.

PTE: An overall score of 65 with atleast 60 in the Communicative Skills, including Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing.
