Education in Australia

Besides its warm and welcoming community and a great lifestyle, Australia has so much more to offer in terms of innovation, technology, the arts, science, business and education.

It has become one of the most desirable destinations for international students because of its world-class quality education and value, post-study work opportunities, safe multicultural society, internationally recognized qualifications, strong student support system and an increasing number of branches of international universities.

The majority of international students’ enrolments are in the higher education institutions and the rest in English language programs and the VET sector.

Australia’s education system promotes and encourages innovative, creative and independent thinking. One of the factors that distinguished the Australian Education system from many other countries is - The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

AQF is a national policy that sets out the standards of education and qualifications across Australia. It protects the quality of Australian education. It is a quality assured framework of national qualifications issued in the Senior secondary school sector, VET and higher education sector.

AQF has major importance in the education system since it provides a clear structure for the level of each level of qualification. AQF level shows how students can progress through the Australian Education System or pathways for international students to reach the level they want.

ELICOS, foundation studies and some non-award programs are some Australian education courses not listed on the AQF even though they offer excellent education and outcomes.

The Education Service for Overseas Students (ESOS) framework protects the rights of international students studying in Australia. In case your education provider is unable to deliver the course of study, the Tuition Protection Service (TPS) assists in ensuring that either you complete your studies in another course or with another education provider, or receive a refund of your unspent fees.

ESOS and TPS are regulatory bodies that provide financial protection and ensure students are fully provided with tuition and resources their study programme entitles them to.

Australian educational institutions are incredibly flexible in their degree options, allowing students to manage and spread out their study credits around part-time work or other commitments. They are also very welcoming and supportive to international students which makes student life much easier.

Courses offered by institutions in Australia, from preparatory level to postgraduate programs, are flexible and globally recognized. In 2014, areas such as engineering, accounting and health sciences ranked highly in the QS World University Rankings by subject. Australian universities also receive good ratings for teaching quality, research and graduate employment.

According to the University Ranking of Quacquarelli Symonds, the Australian National University, the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, the University of Queensland, and the University of Sydney are among the 50 best universities in the world.

The study programs are designed in such a way that it meets the needs of individual students and encourages them to develop skills for work, continuously improve and link learning to real-world purposes.
