About

At the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) you can study English as a two-subject master’s course with the profile of teaching at grammar schools. In the practice-oriented master’s degree, you will deepen your English skills and deal with current research questions. The possibility of flexible e-learning with lecture recording, video analysis in the subject didactics, online tutorial and electronic semester reserve rounds off your study program. In literary and cultural studies, the master’s degree enables you to meet challenges in this research area in a differentiated, reflexive and analytical manner. This means: You will acquire in-depth technical and methodological knowledge with regard to the comparative analysis of texts, taking into account media-specific forms of representation (comparative literature) and with regard to the critical-reflective character of literature (cultural analysis). In linguistics, you will mainly encounter the variability of English along with the methodology of its description. Your practical language skills from the bachelor's degree will now be deepened so that you can both understand complex content and present it adequately. One focus of the subject is the study of Canadian English compared to American / British English. During your time at the University of Kiel, you will acquire in-depth specialist didactic knowledge and practical school knowledge in practical modules. You will receive intensive support from the Center for Teacher Education. With your master’s degree, you can apply your in-depth linguistic and literary theories and methods as well as the cultural and mental history of English-speaking countries together with your linguistic competencies in a targeted manner into your later professional life. The ability to work scientifically also benefits you outside of your job. If you have not yet completed a stay abroad in an English-speaking country, the English Seminar will be happy to help you choose a suitable partner university thanks to its international network.
