Every year, many international students register in UK universities to follow their dream professions in the UK's beautiful and lively cities, such as London, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. These locations are home to some of the world's most prestigious institutions. However, studying in the UK is excessively expensive for overseas students.

For students travelling to study in the UK, studying abroad might be a costly experience. However, a reasonable proposed budget might assist you in better managing your living expenses. When determining the expected cost of studying in the UK, include expenses such as accommodation, food, health insurance, travel, and tuition fee.

The United Kingdom hosts several world's most prestigious universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. The country has world-class universities, but overseas students' education and living in the UK are expensive.

This blog aims to make your financial choices easier while studying in the UK so you don't have to spend every morning figuring out expenses and charges.

Cost of Education

Your tuition fee expenditure is determined by the sort of degree and institution or course you choose. Several prestigious institutions and colleges in the United Kingdom have their tuition regimes. Furthermore, the fee is determined by where you study in the United Kingdom.

Tuition fees are a significant portion of the cost of studying in the UK for Indian students. Tuition fees for undergraduate studies can vary from £8000 to £10000, with a maximum of £30000 depending on the university, course demand and reputation, university location, etc.

According to sources, undergraduate program costs for lecture-based programs started at around £10,000 and increased to £38,000 for undergraduate medical degrees. International tuition for classroom-based programs for postgraduate students was roughly £11,000 and climbed to £32,000. Annual fees for laboratory-based programs ranged from £12,000 to £27,200.

The table below provides the cost of education with their respective degree program.

Based on where you reside and other factors, the monthly cost of living ranges from £1100 to £1400 (98,000 - 1,21,000).

Make a yearly living expense budget of at least £11000 to £15000 (£9,75,000 - 13,28,000). Housing is another big aspect that significantly adds to the cost of UK study for Indian students.

Most institutions offer on-campus or paid accommodation to international students.

You can obtain this for free or a price as part of your offer. In general, university residence halls are the best and most cost-effective options.

If you decide to live in an apartment, you must also pay for electric bills such as power, internet, water consumption, and homeowner's insurance (in some housing areas). The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment is between £550 and £650. (Indicative).

It should be noted that everybody above 18 who lives in the UK must pay for local community programs such as garbage collection, police, fire brigade, recreational services, and so on.

Student Visa Costs

Another expense is the visa expenses for the United Kingdom from India. To study in the United Kingdom, an Indian student must get a Tier 4 visa. Tuition expenses for the first academic year must be paid in full, or proof must be presented indicating that you have the finances to pay the tuition fees for the first year, according to visa regulations. This raises the expense of studying in the United Kingdom for Indian students.

You must demonstrate that you can pay £1015 ($90,000) per month if you live outside of London or £1265  per month if you live in London for nine months.

Health Costs

Several UK institutions have started comprehensive health insurance policies for overseas students, but this only applies while your degree is still running and ends after it is finished.

In addition, Tier 4 dependents must pay the surcharge. Your visa application price will also include the immigration health fees. If you already have health insurance in India, see if it can be extended to accommodate your time in the UK.

Taxes & Insurance

During the academic period, Indian students in the UK are permitted to work 20 hours a week and full-time during holidays. Your company typically deducts Income Tax and National Insurance from your earnings using the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) method.

If you work while studying in the UK, you will additionally have to pay tax and national insurance:

Income Tax

You must contribute to income tax if you earn more than £1,042 a week.

National Insurance

You must pay National Insurance if you earn more than 166 pounds weekly.

Travel Costs

Unless your university offers bus service to and from your accommodation, you must depend on public transportation.

Local trains, buses, taxis, and tunnels are available. Monthly travel tickets to and from college are an excellent choice because they can be reasonably priced. When using a taxi, ensure it has a meter; if it doesn't, agree on the fare to avoid confusion later. If you want to utilize a personal vehicle, your expense sheet must contain car and fuel bills, auto insurance, repairs, and taxes.
