If you want to study MBBS for free, Germany is the right choice. MBBS in Germany is 6 to 7.5 years long, including the coursework and 1- 1.5 year-long internship.

To be precise, an MBBS Course lasts 6 years and 3 months for domestic students. International students must take additional language courses for an extra year before entering the regular MBBS Course. Thus, the course duration for international students is 7 years and 3 months.

Admission Requirements

Academics: The specifics of the academic requirements will differ from university to university. Overall, students must pass the intermediate level with biology, chemistry, maths and English with a minimum of the first division.

MBBS Details

As mentioned earlier, this course is from 5.5 to 7.5 years long. Students must complete an MBBS degree in Germany successfully through the following phases. 

  • Pre-Clinical Phase of MBBS: Phase 1/ pre-clinical phase is 2 years (4 semesters) long, only after passing the first medical licensing examination at the end of the clinical phase to proceed to the next level. 
  • Clinical Phase of MBBS: Phase 2 of MBBS in Germany, also called as Clinical Phase, is 3 years/6 semesters long. This is the main phase where students learn the core subjects of medical science via seminars, lectures, workshops, practicals, etc.  
  • Practical Year of MBBS: The third phase offers students hands-on job experience via internships. This clinical training is an opportunity to implement the theories you have learnt before practically. 
  • State Examination of MBBS: Stage 2- clearing the state examination of MBBS- is an essential part of pursuing an MBBS degree in Germany because only after appearing and clearing a nationally standardised examination in Germany can you apply for a medical license and work as a certified doctor.
