School of Planning And Architecture

    School of Planning And Architecture
    Established on: 2008

The Department of Architecture at Delhi Polytechnic served as the School of Planning and Architecture's humble beginnings in 1941. The School of Town and Country Planning, founded in 1955 by the Government of India to provide facilities for rural, urban, and regional planning, was subsequently connected with the University of Delhi and incorporated with it. In 1959, the school changed to the School of Planning and Architecture.

The School is a specialist university that offers instruction at various levels in many facets of human habitat and environment. It is the only institution of its type. At both the Bachelor's and Master's levels, the School has taken the initiative to introduce academic programs in specialised subjects, some of which are still not offered elsewhere in India. In its pursuit of greatness, the School has always taken the initiative to expand research and instruction to uncharted areas of knowledge. Since the School's primary interests are in human habitat and the environment, the range of academic programs is constantly being broadened by offering courses in cutting-edge research disciplines and developing industries for which there are no facilities elsewhere in the nation.

SPA's goal, which is already well-known internationally, is to transform it into a prestigious hub of academic investigation, innovation, learning, and capacity building by 2025.

In light of the above, the following will comprise SPA's mission:

    • To develop SPA into a multi-disciplinary academic knowledge hub, a trailblazer, and a recognised leader in the planning and designing of built environments and human habitats.
    • To offer creative workers grounded in our cultural ethos and actively contribute to the country's development.
    • Create a competitive edge for SPA in human settlement planning, design, research, training, and consulting.

Planning, architecture, and design courses are available at the school's undergraduate and graduate levels. All SPAs' undergraduate admission requirements are based on the Entrance Examination or JEE for short. Applicants for admission to B.Arch (Bachelor of Architecture) and B.Plan (Bachelor of Planning) programs at SPAs must pass the Joint Entrance Examination. Graduate Aptitude Tests in Engineering results and numerous interviews are used to determine admission to most postgraduate programs in SPAs.

The extremely popular Bachelor of Planning programme was launched in 1989, even though the Bachelor of Architecture course is one of the nation's oldest. The school also offers 10 postgraduate programs and doctorate programs each department of study offers. There were 1,189 students enrolled in the 2015–2016 academic year, 717 were undergraduates, and 428 were postgraduates. 44 students are now enrolled in the School's Doctoral program.
