Tribhuvan University, Nepal's most prestigious educational establishment, is home to five technical institutes, including the Institute of Forestry. The Department of Forests founded the Institute of Forestry (now known as the IoF) in 1947 at Singha Durbar under Nepal Forestry Institute. However, in 1957 it was relocated to Bhimphedi, then in 1965, it was transferred to Hetauda, and in 1972 it was eventually amalgamated with TU. The current administrative headquarters of the institute is located on the Pokhara Campus. This building is often commonly referred to as the dean's office. At its Pokhara and Hetauda campuses, the Institute of Forestry provides academic programs relevant to forestry.

The IOF-PC is divided into six departments, each led by a department head. These department heads are responsible for administering the academic programs of their respective courses effectively and efficiently.
