    Tribhuvan University is a public university in Kathmandu's Kirtipur district. TU is Nepal's oldest university, having been founded in 1959. In terms of enrolment, it is the world's 12th most prominent university. The university provides 1000 undergraduate and 500 postgraduate programs in various fields. Furthermore, the university comprises 30 component campuses and nearly 600 linked colleges. Tuition costs are lower since it is government-funded than private (associated) college campuses.

    The state-owned institution has extended its programs since its foundation. Five technical institutes and four general faculties are available. The university provides 115 technical competency certificate courses. TU provides 1079 Bachelor's level courses and 1000 Master's level courses. In technical institutes and faculties, Ph.D. degrees are available.

    Journalism and mass communication (JMC) education in Nepal began in 1976. Ratna Rajya Laxmi College of Tribhuvan University started JMC as an optional subject for Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) students in 1986 and launched Bachelor's in Arts in JMC.

    The Masters of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication program began in 2001, while the M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs began in 2017. The Department has graduated hundreds of journalists and is a journalism and mass communication education leader.

    Objectives of Journalism and Mass Communication

    • Students must have achieved their Intermediate or equivalent levels in any field that includes journalism (100 marks). Students who want to specialize in English and Journalism should have studied these topics in high school.
    • Students interested in pursuing an MA degree at Tribhuvan University must have completed a Bachelor of Mass Communication and Journalism or any comparable degree from Tribhuvan University or any college/university recognized by Tribhuvan University. If the candidate possesses a bachelor's degree from a college/university recognized by TU, they can pursue this degree in science, business, or any other field. Candidates must meet all of the standards outlined by the Mass Communication and Journalism department.
